Audrey Shirley Hansen

Audrey was born to parents Alfred and Ileen (Kirchhefer) Glandt on December 28th, 1926 in Bennington, NE. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington. Audrey attended school in Bennington and graduated from high school there in 1944. In 1944, Audrey moved into Omaha, NE and lived there until 1947 while she worked at Paxton & Gallagher Co. and Mutual of Omaha. Audrey married Laverne Robert (Bob) Douglas on December 7th, 1947 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn, NE. Audrey and Bob lived on a farm in Douglas County just outside of Elkhorn on West Center Street until 1961. During those years, Audrey and Bob had three children, Jane Ileen Douglas (Heck), Steven (Steve) Michael Douglas, and William (Bill) Robert Douglas. After 1961, the family moved to a farm just north of Malmo in Saunders County, NE. Another son, David Alan Douglas, was born to Audrey and Bob in 1963. The family continued to live on the farm near Malmo until 1972, when Audrey moved to nearby Wahoo, NE with Bill and Dave after she and Bob divorced in 1971. Audrey lived in Wahoo from 1972 until 1976 where she worked as a clerk for the City of Wahoo and also part-time as an assistant at Max’s Drug Store. In 1976, she and David moved to Omaha (Millard area) where they lived in the Timbercreek Apartments near 137th and Harrison. After moving to Omaha, Audrey became a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Millard, where she would eventually return to be a faithful church member for many years. Audrey worked in Omaha at Old Mill Toyota from 1976 until 1979, when she changed employers and started work with Happy Cab Co. (which eventually became Hunt Transportation) until she retired in 1996 at the young age of 70. In 1977, Audrey married Robert (Bob) Hansen and moved to Bob’s farm just south of Manley, NE where she and Bob lived together until 1983 when he became ill with cancer and they moved to an apartment in Omaha. In 1985, after Bob died of cancer Audrey bought a home near “old L” Street and 144th Street in Millard. Audrey lived at this home until 2017, when she sold it to grandchildren and moved to a condo in Omaha, and then eventually into the Walnut Grove Retirement Village until her passing. Audrey was very active during the years she lived at her house in Millard, volunteering for various services to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Millard and even working part-time at a local clothing store and Old Country Buffet. Audrey Shirley (Glandt) Hansen passed away on December 26, 2022. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hansen; parents, Alfred and Ileen; son, William; sisters: Donna Lee (Allen) Neu, Ruth (Russell) Henderson, and Pauline (Frederick) Kuehl, and her only brother Stanley (Sandy) Glandt. Audrey is survived by children Jane (Jim) Heck, Steven (Nancy) Douglas, David (Diana) Douglas; step-children: Sandy (Hansen) Latham and Randy Hansen; eight grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; as well as nieces and nephews from the Glandt, Kuehl and Neu families, and of course many dear friends.
