Brian James Godden

Brian James Godden was born on September 16, 1967 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Dennis and Patricia (Hughes) Godden. The family relocated to Leshara, Nebraska prior to Brian’s fifth grade year. His elementary years were spent at Yutan Elementary School. Brian then attended high school at Yutan graduating from Yutan High School in 1986. Following graduation, Brian attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He went on to graduate from Wayne State College in 1991 with a Bachelor’s Degree. He enjoyed reading, fishing and playing baseball, basketball and football while growing up. After his college graduation, Brian started two printing companies including Big B’s in Fremont, Nebraska and Digital Express in Omaha, Nebraska. Brian married Edye Bevington on March 30, 1996 at the United Methodist Church in Valley, Nebraska. They have raised their family on a small farm outside of town. Brian treasured time spent with his family and friends. He will be forever known for his story telling which rarely lacked embellishments or slight fabrications. Brian’s quick smile and wit put everyone who met him at ease. He enjoyed hiking, fishing, and writing. His most beloved family vacations were spent in the mountains. Brian had a passion for sports and for coaching. He sought out the opportunity to assist with coaching many boys’ and girls’ teams including football, basketball, and baseball. Brian thrived on the involvement with his own children’s teams. Brian loved teaching all kids and watching each of them grow from their involvement with athletics. Brian passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at his home near Valley, Nebraska with his family at his side at the age of 40 years, 8 months and 4 days. Brian had waged a courageous battle against colon cancer. He will always be remembered for his amazing smile, his faithful friendship, for being a wonderful husband and for being the best dad. He was a man of strong character and faith who loved his family and cherished his time with his children. He is survived by his wife Edye; children Shelby, Brandon and Cassidy all of Valley; parents Denny and Pat Godden of Leshara; sister Deborah Mumme of Leshara; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins
