Dorothy McKinsey

Dorothy Jean (Goolsby) McKinsey was born on February 6, 1929 in Verdon, Nebraska the oldest of seven children of Ralph and Dora (Lippold) Goolsby. She attended Verdon Schools, graduating from Verdon High School in 1945. Dorothy went on to receive her teaching certificate from Peru College and taught school for one year. As a young girl, she spent most of her time helping the family. At the age of thirteen, she went to work for a local family as a nanny for their large family. Dorothy married Roland McKinsey on May 29, 1947 at the Justice of the Peace in Humboldt, Nebraska and they were blessed with a daughter, Judy. They lived in Verdon for a short time before settling in Omaha. Dorothy and Roland enjoyed summer weekends at their home in Randolph, Kansas and after retirement, winters in Arizona. Dorothy worked for Mutual of Omaha as a bookkeeper for 38 years. She enjoyed crafts, golf, travelling, baking, working in her garden and was an avid Husker fan. Weekends in Kansas were special for the family time spent fishing, boating and camping but best of all was the time with her grandchildren. Dorothy liked things organized, neat and tidy. She was well dressed and is remembered as being stylish and classy. Dorothy was sensitive about her age and could be heard to ask “How old is old?” Dorothy passed away suddenly on December 24, 2012 at the Methodist Women’s Hospital in Omaha at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 18 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Dora and brothers Donald, Bob and Dick Goolsby. Dorothy is survived by husband Roland; daughter and son-in-law Judy and Bernard Andrews of Waterloo, NE; grandchildren Chris and Barb Andrews of Gretna,NE, Tammy and Ben Leehy of Neola, IA and Alyssa Kohler of Gretna, NE and 10 great grandchildren; sisters Betty Fleming of Raytown, MO, Ilene Stephens of Auburn, NE and Mary Herbster of Auburn, NE; McKinsey, Dorothy age 83 of Survived by husband Roland; daughter and son-in-law Judy and Bernard Andrews of Waterloo, NE; grandchildren Chris and Barb Andrews of Gretna,NE, Tammy and Ben Leehy of Neola, IA and Alyssa Kohler of Gretna, NE and 10 great grandchildren; sisters Betty Fleming of Raytown, MO, Ilene Stephens of Auburn, NE and Mary Herbster of Auburn, NE; Visitation Friday 9 AM to 10 AM.
