Freida Bea Cochran

Freida Cochran, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 10th at the age of 75 following a six week hospitalization and battle with sepsis. Freida was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, church-member, and co-worker to many, and she will be greatly missed. Freida was born on November 26, 1947 in Greensburg, Kansas, the daughter of Walt and Nellie Bea Anderson of Coldwater, Kansas. After moving to Stevens County, Kansas, Freida attended Hugoton public schools while growing up on a farm in Stevens County, Kansas with her three brothers, Steve, Rod, and Ronnie Anderson. Following her graduation from Hugoton High School, Freida attended Bethany Nazarene College where she received a degree in education and met her husband Mahlon Cochran, of Weld, Maine. Freida and Mahlon were married on May 23rd, 1970 at Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Stanton County, Kansas and soon started a family after moving to Graham, Texas where they began their ministry in service to the Church of the Nazarene in Graham, Texas. Freida and Mahlon would continue to serve as pastor and wife in churches in Texas, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Nebraska over the course of their ministry and marriage together from 1970-2014, when Mahlon retired from the ministry. Freida was known throughout her life for her loving dedication to her family and love of her children and grandchildren. Freida spent her life serving others in ministry, and was a gracious, loving, and kind friend to all those who knew her. Freida spent the final years of her life enjoying her family and working for Berkshire Hathaway in Omaha, Nebraska. Freida was also an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, playing games, and watching movies with family, bird-watching, painting, cross stitching, and attending and supporting the many activities of her grandchildren. Freida will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to Christ defined who she truly was to so many people. Freida Cochran was predeceased by her father, Walt Anderson; her mother. Nellie Bea Anderson; and her husband Rev. Mahlon P. Cochran. Freida is survived by her two sons and two daughters; Jeff Cochran and his wife Kim of Omaha, Nebraska, Walt Cochran and his wife Tracy of Gardner, Kansas, Twyla (Cochran) McCurley and her husband Eugene of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, and Sarah (Cochran) Armstrong and her husband Bryan of Gardner, Kansas. Freida leaves behind her six grandchildren Trent and Lindsay Cochran of Gardner, Kansas, Alex and Wesley McCurley of Broken Bow Oklahoma, and Savannah and Jack Armstrong of Gardner, Kansas. Freida also is survived by her three brothers Steve Anderson and his wife Tanya of Hugoton, Kansas; Rod Anderson and his wife Jeanetta of Graham, Texas, and Ronnie Anderson and his wife Barbara of Hugoton, Kansas A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Freida at Faith Journey Church of the Nazarene in Omaha, Nebraska on Sunday April 23rd at 2:00 PM. Flowers can be sent to Faith Journey Church of the Nazarene after Noon on Sunday, April 23rd at 2920 N 118th St #104, Omaha, NE 68164. Memorials honoring Freida may be sent to the Nebraska District Church of the Nazarene at 960 Johnson Rd., Fremont, NE 68025 and notated as “Emergency Pastors Fund”. Freida was passionate about advocating and helping other pastors and their families in times of need.
