Jean Marian Tiedje

Jean Marian Dein Tiedje was born on March 23, 1929, with her beloved twin sister Joan, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE, to parents Walter and Myrtle Dein, who farmed near Irvington, NE. The family later moved to a farm near Arlington, NE. Jean and Joan graduated from Arlington High School in 1946 at the age of 17. After graduation they attended Midland College for one summer which allowed them to teach in the fall. The next summer they attended Wayne State and earned 2-year teaching certificates. While Jean was teaching at District 26 near Bennington, a young man, LeRoy Tiedje, often rode his Indian motorcycle past the school. They had their first date in Bennington where they saw a movie. In LeRoy’s proposal to Jean he said he was getting a farm and needed a cook. She said yes! Jean and LeRoy we married on March 19, 1949, at First Congregational Church, Arlington, and to this union six children were born: Connie, Kevin, Verlin, Corinne, Claus and Chari. Jean and LeRoy started their life together in a small home on Hwy 31 near Bennington Road, later moved to the “Jensen place,” and then purchased their own farm. Jean and LeRoy were partners on the farm working side by side, with her milking cows with him in the early years of marriage. Besides her immaculate housekeeping skills, she was cook, bookkeeper, gardener and a busy farm wife and mother who loved being outside, mowing, gardening, and doing daily chores. Later, she worked at the nursing home in Elkhorn and at Mt. Michael, caring for others. As a steadfast woman of faith, Jean was involved at Bethany Lutheran Church in various ways, including Hope circle. She also enjoyed over 50 years of league bowling, participating well into her 80’s. Jean always loved flowers and had a very large, very beautiful flower garden. But the greatest joys in her life were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and being with immediate and extended family. In 2021 Jean moved to Dunklau Gardens in Fremont to live with Joan. The twins being together again brought so much joy, not only to each other, but also to residents and staff at the facility with their giggles and laughter. Their giggles were contagious. Left to cherish Jean’s memory are her children, Connie Sealock-Daniels, Washington, NE; Verlin Tiedje (Sue), North Platte, NE; Corinne Brown (Steve), Elkhorn, NE; Claus Tiedje (Lisa), Blair, NE; Chari Tiedje, Valentine, NE; twin sister Joan Scheer and brother Carl Dein, Fremont, NE; sister Mary Kruger (Jim), Oregon; sister-in-law Evelyn Novotny, Omaha, NE; 9 granddaughters, 9 grandsons, and 24 great grandchildren. Jean died peacefully at Dunklau Gardens on April 13, 2023. In death she rejoins her husband of 43 years, LeRoy H. Tiedje; son, Kevin L. Tiedje; great-grandson Dayton Tiedje; sister Greta Fagerquist; brother, Dave Dein; and parents Walter and Myrtle Dein. Funeral Service 10:30 am Tuesday April 18, 2023. Visitation 9:00-10:30 am at the church prior to service. Interment Flower Hill Cemetery. Memorials to the cemetery.
