Oren E. Long Jr.

Oren E. “Butch” Long, Jr. was born September 11, 1945 in Iowa City, IA to Oren E. and Dorothy Ellen (Seydel) Long. He graduated from Scottland High School in 1963, and attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol J. Kummer on April 29, 1967, and the couple was blessed with a daughter, Roberta Elizabeth and son Oren Erran. Butch was drafted into the US Army in 1969, and was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida for 1.5 years. Following his time in the military, Butch worked for Iowa Beef Packers and rose to management. As an entrepreneur, he started Aksarben Foods meat processing on November 3, 1979. He operated the business for 27 years until his retirement at age 52. Enjoying life to the fullest, Butch was an avid fisherman, hunter, traveler, golfer, cook, husband, father, and grandpa. He was forever hosting family and friends and coordinating the next fishing trip. He was preceded in death by his parents Oren & Dorothy Long, nephew Christopher, niece Jessica and great nephew Samuel. Butch is survived by his wife Carol (Kummer) of Omaha, daughter Dr. Roberta “Robbi” (Shawn) Knudsen, son Oren Erran, III of Omaha, grandchildren; Wyatt, Shea, Bodi, siblings; Mary Ellen (Richard) Mayer of Truman, MN, Daniel Long of Madison, SD, Cindy (Donald) Fisher of Sagle, ID, Steve (Brenda) Long of Indianola, IA, Mark Long of Pipestone, MN, Matt (Debbie) Long of Creston, IA, Pat (Brent) Morningstar of Maple Lake, MN, Mike (Becky) Long of Olivet, SD, Todd (Kay) Long of Mitchell, SD, Monica Ulses of Elkhorn, NE, Jenny (Kevin) Fergen of Dimock, SD, Peg (Dan) Minnaert of Boise, ID, Morry (Theresa) Long of Mitchell, SD, and countless nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. Visitation Sunday, April 16 from 1-3 PM with a Wake service at 3 PM at Reichmuth Funeral Home, 21901 W. Maple Rd., Elkhorn, NE 68022. Funeral Mass Monday, April 17 at 10:30 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 14330 Eagle Run Drive, Omaha, NE. Private inurnment with military honors at Omaha National Cemetery.
