Albert "Skip" R. Swoboda

Albert “Skip” R. Swoboda was born on January 31, 1944 in Omaha, Nebraska to Albert Sr. and Gertrude (Wrede) Swoboda. Skip grew up in Omaha, graduating from Ryan High School in 1962. He went on to attend Omaha University where he majored in engineering and received a master’s in water management. In 1967, Skip met Marie Finley on a blind date, and the two were later married on December 28, 1968 in Omaha. They were blessed with two children: Julie and Jennifer. In 1968, Skip began working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a hydraulic engineer where he worked until his retirement in 2006. After their marriage, Skip and Marie moved to Tacoma, WA, later moving to Germany, Omaha, and Portland, OR, before settling in Elkhorn. In his free time, Skip had a passion for gardening. He grew both flowers and vegetables, and his flowers were so beautiful, many people would stop to admire them. Skip was also very handy and could fix anything. He also enjoyed walking, golfing, going to the gym, and traveling. He liked to have an active social life and met up with his friends to play cards. Skip and Marie enjoyed attending Creighton games together. He was also a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church in Elkhorn. Skip held the title of “Lawn Game Champion”. Even when his family gave him the handicap of only using his left hand, he still beat everyone! Due to his warm, welcoming, and generous personality, Skip made a wonderful host. He not only enjoyed having his family and friends over, but also loved his children and grandchildren to invite their friends as well. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren and loved to spend as much time with them as possible. Skip passed away on February 26, 2025 at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Gertrude Swoboda; brothers, Richard Swoboda and James Swoboda; sister-in-law, Fran Swoboda, and brother-in-law, Tom Schrack, Sr. Skip is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marie Swoboda; daughters, Julie (Rich) Hadland & Jennifer (Jamie) Bengston; grandchildren: Ryan, Emily, & Cara Hadland and Ian & Patrick Bengston; and siblings: Mary Ann Schrack, Bob Swoboda, & Gary (Jan) Swoboda. VISITATION: 10-11am Monday, March 3, 2025 at St. Patrick’s Church in Elkhorn with FUNERAL MASS to begin at 11am. INURNMENT: 2:30pm Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Elkhorn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. Patrick's Church in Elkhorn.
