Bettyann A Hood

Bettyann A. Hood (Eicke) April 4, 1935 – July 21, 2012 Born on the family farm and raised in Elkhorn, Nebraska she enjoyed a full life of adventures. Some of her fondest memories in her early adult life came from the years she lived in Las Vegas, initially traveling to help her aunt and uncle with their motel; she fell in love with the area and stayed. Her greatest pride was being a mother, living her life for her three girls. Though she worked many hours, having at least three jobs at any given time over the years, caring for her dad and providing for her girls as she raised them on her own; she was always very involved in the girls’ activities and volunteering. She did whatever it took to give them as many opportunities as they could possibly have; serving as their Bluebird/Campfire girls leaders, 4H leader, Softball coach, PTA committee member, School Chaperone, and providing countless help needed for fundraisers and school projects with treats and crafts. She never missed a birthday, with a special homemade cake and thoughtful gift that was just right for each birthday girl. Anyone that knew her knew what a great cook, baker, and canner she was, with her greatest joy coming from the happiness others got from savoring and sharing her treats; an invaluable gift to family and friends that will be cherished for many years to come. She shared her love of the outdoors and how much she treasured family togetherness with years of Nebraska camping trips with grandpa and the girls. Countless memories of cooking outdoors (especially breakfast), fishing, hiking, playing games; and most importantly sharing time of rest and relaxation away with family were made on those special trips. She touched many lives, projecting a positive attitude in the face of trying times wherever she went, blessed with many special friendships with co-workers and customers in the Elkhorn area during her years having an Avon route and serving the public at Denker’s Ballroom, Mount Michael Abbey and High School, and Farmer Brown’s. As she’d say… you have to make things exciting, living life to the fullest (a little teasing and orneriness never hurt anyone). It is unknown to her girls how she grew to love it so, but anyone that knew “Mother Hood”, knew how much she loved to play BINGO, leaving behind a log of every game played and wins and losses that reflect the many games played together and memories made. In the spirit of how important family was to her; she journeyed to Lakeville, Minnesota in 1998 to be closer to her oldest daughter Renea. Most recently she moved to Melbourne, Florida to enjoy more time with her daughters Rochelle and Rhonda and spend time with her granddaughter Ella. She passed along to her girls her strong core belief to always do the right thing. Proudly graduated in the Elkhorn High School class of 1952; she recently enjoyed seeing classmates and friends when attending her 60th class reunion. Proving to herself she could still achieve success in school; she returned in her 50’s and completed coursework at Metropolitan Community College. In her home in the loving care of her daughters she peacefully joined her dad, Henry Eicke, in heaven on July 21st.
