Beverly Berneice Ijames

Beverly Berniece (Whitman) Ijames was born 08/21/1935 in Belleville Kansas to parents Dorothy M. Blanchard and Benjamin J. Whitman. Bev was the eldest of two children. Her brother Harrison, was born 15 months later, and they were the best of friends. She called him Bud and he called her Babs which stuck for most of their lives. In the 2nd grade, Bev met LaVerne Ijames who had moved to into town from the farm. He became good friends with Bud and always had a love for Beverly. She worked at the movie theater and the skating rink in high school and was a baton twirler in the Belleville Marching Band. LaVerne had a basketball scholarship to go to in college in Kansas and he asked Bev to go along with him. She said yes and they were married after his graduation in 1954. In 1957 and 1960 they had 2 sons, Lane and Chris and then in 1969 a daughter Erin. LaVerne was a City Administrator for 40 years and the family spent most of that time in Kansas, Colorado and then Nebraska. Beverly was a wonderful wife and mother and stayed home with the children during their growing. Later she attended college for floral design and worked in both flower and bridal shops until retirement. The Ijames family were members of the First United Methodist Church. Beverly was always quiet and shy, she so was kind hearted and had developed a tremedous amount of patience for the sense of humor that all three kids inherited from Verne. Verne passed away peacefully 01/07/2024 after a 20 year battle with Alzheimer's and incredible care from his wife of almost 70 years. As it was meant to be, Beverly again went with Verne on his journey and passed peacefully on 01/23/2024. She was a very strong cancer survivor and amazing caregiver. Bev was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bud and son Lane. She is survived by daughter Erin and grandchildren Allie, Katie, Dylan and Evan. Her son Chris and grandchildren Mallory and Hayden. Lane's family - Tina and granddaughter Linsay and 2 great grandchildren Mikayla and Jace. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and friends too numerous to count : ) She was shy but quick to make friends which made everyone feel like family and she will be greatly missed. Special thank you again to all of the staff at Brookstone Village and Angels Care Hospice for their endless kindness in her care. And for always humoring her incredible love of Elvis Presley to the very last day! Also, a kind thank you to Reichmuth for their respectfulness and dignity in assisting our family again. Beverly's life journey was blessed, remarkable and as charming as a Hallmark movie : ) The family will have a celebration of life for LaVerne and Beverly in Saint George, Utah where they spent much of their retirement.
