Carol Kiger

Carol M. “Rusty” Kiger was born in North Platte, NE on August 19, 1954 to William and Barbara Leighton. She grew up in North Platte before moving to Fort Calhoun, NE during her high school years. She graduated from Fort Calhoun High School and then moved to Omaha to begin work at Mutual of Omaha. While working at Mutual of Omaha, Carol met Bill. The two were married on May 21, 1977 in Omaha and they were blessed with two children, Julie and Jason. Carol and Bill raised their family in Omaha. Carol worked as an in-home daycare provider while also being the ultimate mom to Julie and Jason. She was a loving and caring mother, and her family was always taken care of and always had home cooked meals. Carol was an excellent cook and baker; she made the best potato salad and no one’s brownies compare to hers. In her free time, Carol loved to be outside. She spent most of her time outdoors gardening, tending to all of the beautiful flowers she grew. She also enjoyed sun tanning. Reading was another favorite pastime, and Carol enjoyed watching scary movies, Hallmark movies, and crime drama television shows. After her children had grown up, Carol spent time working as a receptionist at a credit union. Carol was very present in her children’s lives as they grew up, and she also loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Carol will be remembered for her kindness and the love she showed to her husband, children and grandchildren. Julie remembers that she could never stay mad at her mom, during her teenage years when they would argue, Carol would begin to jump up and down and Julie would think she looked so much like a kangaroo she would begin to laugh, and the argument would soon be forgotten. Carol could also be feisty, and she was a strong woman. She was also very driven and wouldn’t rest if there was something that needed to be done. Carol cherished her family and will be missed greatly. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, William and Barbara, and her husband, Bill Kiger Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Steve) Nelson; son, Jason (Liz) Kiger; grandchildren: Kailey Nelson, Chloe Nelson, Emerson Nelson, Kate Kiger, and Sam Kiger; and sister, Elaine. On Friday, September 6th, a celebration of life will be held at Waterford Clubhouse in Bennington from 10am to 12pm. Friends are welcome to stop by and visit between those hours, and are also welcome to join the family in planting flowers in Carol's memory after the celebration of life. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
