Carolyn Marie Vencil

Carolyn Marie Burke was born February 14, 1936, in Omaha, Nebraska to Sterling and Rosamond (Monahon) Burke. She attended country school just a half mile north of where she grew up outside of Valley and graduated from Valley High School in 1953. As a young girl, Carolyn was active in Rainbow Girl’s and 4-H. Carolyn married her high school sweetheart, Frank Vencil in August 1954 while Frank was stationed in Ft. Lewis, Washington while enlisted in the Army. The couple was blessed with seven children: Joni, Dave, Cathy, Susan, Brian, Mark, and Deanne. Carolyn and Frank raised their family on the family farm on Vencil Island until the flood of 1971. They then moved to the farm north of Valley. Carolyn worked for the Valley Bank and a bank in downtown Omaha before she married Frank, but after they were married, Carolyn was the most dedicated farm wife Frank could ask for. They had an inseparable bond and loved to bring the family together to keep everyone close. Carolyn was an excellent cook, and she and Frank hosted numerous family get-togethers, large dinners, and holidays at their home or at the cabin. Carolyn enjoyed cheering on the Huskers and the Kansas City Chiefs, canning and sewing, and gave Frank a run for his money while fishing. She even earned 4 Master Angler’s on her own. Carolyn and Frank served together at St. John’s Catholic Church in Valley on several committees and the Christian Family Movement. They loved to travel together, visiting Mexico, the Caribbean, Ireland and other parts of Europe, Hawaii and Alaska. They loved attending as many of the grandkids’ sporting events as they could, and they even took all 24 grandkids on their own trips to Disney World with grandma and grandpa! After Frank passed away in October 2022, Carolyn was happy to go out to get her nails done or have lunch with family and friends. Carolyn passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the age of 88 years, 7 months, and 22 days. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank and her parents. Carolyn is survived by her children Joni (Larry) Byers, Dave (Linda), Cathy (Gary) Cooper, Susan (Jerry) Randall, Brian (Londa), Mark (Colette), and Deanne (Bob) Page, 24 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandsons. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital or The Shriner's Hospital for Children.
