Maple Rd. 402-289-2222 Carrol Jean (Busekist) Wamsat was born on September 5, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska to Henry and Marie (Kroeger) Busekist. In 1931 seventy six babies were entered in the better baby contest at the Douglas County Fair sponsored by the Happy Hour Club of Waterloo. Ribbons were awarded to two boys and two girls, Carrol was one of these winners. She grew up on a farm south of Elkhorn where she attended country school and graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1947. In her senior year Carrol was the business manager of the first “Antler” school newspaper. As a young girl, Carrol spent much of her time caring for her parents, helping on the farm, and with her brother Gerald’s champion 4-H hogs. Carrol married Kenneth Wamsat on October 22, 1950 and to this union two sons were born: Stephen and Kevin. Carrol and Ken raised their family in the Valley/Elkhorn area. In recent years they have lived in Greenwood, Nebraska where they continued in the antique business. In addition to her duties as a homemaker and bookkeeper for the family hardware stores, Carrol has operated flower shops and an antique store in Elkhorn and Valley. She was a good business woman, meticulous and very well organized. She and Ken were hardworking and seldom took a vacation. She was active with her son in Cub Scouts, and her and Ken raised and showed Pug dogs. Carrol was a kind and giving woman remembered for her big smile. Carrol passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Marquis Place in Elkhorn, Nebraska at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 25 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Marie Busekist, son Stephen Wamsat, brother Gerald Busekist and in-laws Paul and Hildegard Wamsat. Carrol is survived by her husband Ken; son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Sara Wamsat of Omaha; grandchildren: Kalle Wamsat of Elkhorn and Zach and Amanda Wamsat of Omaha; and great granddaughter Kenley Wamsat and many relatives and friends.
