Cindy Rae Bulgrin

Cindy was born on Valentine's Day in 1947 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Her family, including her older brother Steve, and younger siblings Ed and Deb moved to Omaha in 1954. After graduating from Omaha North High School she attended Northwest Missouri State, but wanted something different so she switched to nursing school and became an LPN in 1967. She and Denny married on May 31, 1969 and in August of 1971 she decided to start an even more important job as a stay-at-home mom for Carrie and Nancy. Using her extremely creative abilities, Cindy and Denny renovated their home in the Keystone area of Omaha. Our backyard was the envy of everyone in the neighborhood. Then they moved on to a new venture – a toy store in the Benson area. She created themed spaces that included her love for animals and the outdoors. She also talked Denny into helping her with a side business where they would attend craft fairs to sell the many different designs she painted. Moving to the acreage in Elkhorn in 1985 gave her the ability to have as many animals as she wanted. And she wanted many. The list is too long to name them all, but let’s just say it included a pot-belly pig, many miniature donkeys, a goat, different exotic birds and numerous horses. She was always busy outdoors: taking care of the animals, mowing, and even digging post holes for the horse pasture. They became very involved at Bethany Lutheran Church, where she taught aerobics and planned large themed ice-cream socials (that included sky divers on one occasion)! When her grandchildren were born it was just understood that she was going to take care of them during the day. And of course, she used her creative skills to do things like make an ice-cream truck out of boxes for the kids to “drive around” the living room. When they were a little older and weren’t at her house as often, she came up with the idea to attract them with “summer camp” at her house where she taught them table etiquette and other important life skills. Her favorite vacation spot was Okoboji. She made sure they had the same opportunity to enjoy the lake and surrounding area as much as she did by taking them there for a few days each summer. The most important thing to Cindy was her family and it showed in everything she did. We will miss you dearly. Cindy passed away at her home in Omaha, Nebraska on Monday, May 16, 2022 at the age of 75 years, 3 months and two days. She is survived by her husband Denny of Omaha, daughters and sons-in-law Carrie & James Haubensak of Springfield, NE and Nancy & Joe Sevening of Bennington, NE, grandchildren; Raelyn (Luke) Polenz, Meredith Haubensak, Anna Haubensak, Teagan Sevening, and Julian Sevening, brother Ed (Terri) Mashek of Omaha, and sister Deb (Vern) Goff of Omaha. Memorial service Friday, May 27, 11 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church, Elkhorn. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Bethany Lutheran Church. Private interment at a later date.
