Daniel "Dan" J. McMahon

Daniel Joseph McMahon was born on October 14, 1956 in Perry, Iowa to Jerome and Mary (Murphy) McMahon. He grew up in Omaha, graduating from Bryan High School in 1974. Shortly after finishing high school, Dan joined the Navy, where he served for two years until his honorable discharge in November of 1976. On November 8, 1984, Dan met the love of his life, Doreen Rieck, and the two were engaged one month later, December 8, 1984. They celebrated their marriage on May 31, 1986 and raised three children together. Dan worked in many different positions at Methodist Hospital and was employed at the hospital for over 20 years before his medical retirement. In his free time, Dan loved fishing and camping; he enjoyed being able to teach his three children how to fish. He liked to spend time with his friends, Eldon and Nancy Rowlett, and Eldon was his fishing buddy. Dan was also able to fix anything. He had enough tools to rival a hardware store, and he kept them meticulously organized; he could tell immediately if someone had moved a tool. His favorite teams to cheer for were the Minnesota Vikings and the Huskers. Once you got to know Dan, you would learn what a gentle man he was. He loved unconditionally and would always be there for you. While Dan expected you to do your best, he was always understanding and compassionate if you stumbled. Dan loved his family and would always tell Doreen, “I love you all the countin’ to infinity times ten.” Dan liked to go fishing with his boys but was also made to be a girl dad. He and Stacy had a special bond and would give each other butterfly kisses each night before they went to bed. Once his grandchildren were born, he enjoyed watching them play in his backyard. He also had a great love for all of his dogs. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Mary McMahon; parents-in-law, Gene and Marge Rieck; siblings: Mary Liz O’Riley, Ann Taylor, and Michael T. McMahon; and sister-in-law, Debbie Rieck. He is survived by his wife, Doreen McMahon of Elkhorn, NE; children: Andy Rieck (Susy) of Omaha, NE, Damon McMahon (Sami Jo) of Fremont, NE, and Stacy McMahon (Justin Kolb) of Omaha, NE; siblings: Jerome McMahon (Gui Rong) of Arkansas, Christine Oxner of Guatamala, and Colleen Dannehl (Kurt) of Kearney, NE; sisters-in-law, Denice Lee (Mark) on Mondovi, WI and Dena Johnson (Brandon) of Elkhorn, NE; and grandchildren: Derek and Elena Rieck, Chance, Crew, and Charlie McMahon, and Haley, Tyler, and Hunter Kolb. VISITATION: 5-7pm on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Reichmuth Funeral Home with Rosary to be prayed at 7pm. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11am on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at Reichmuth Funeral Home. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
