Darrell Lee Braesch

Darrell Lee Braesch was born on April 26, 1938 in Bennington, Nebraska to Paul and Edna (Voss) Braesch. He grew up on the family farm near Bennington, was baptized and confirmed at St John's Lutheran Church, and attended District 26 country school before graduating from Elkhorn High School in 1955. As a young boy, Darrell enjoyed his free moments fishing while working on the family farm and grew into a young man who served his country proudly for 8 years as a member of the National Guard. Darrell married Leila Redel on October 1, 1961, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Winside, Nebraska and together they were blessed with two children, Debbie and Barry, who they raised on the farm near Bennington until they moved to Omaha in 1986. Darrell farmed until they moved to Omaha, where he became the Grounds Supervisor at Immanuel Medical Center, working for 20 years until his retirement in 2006. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, camping, fishing, gardening, playing cards, traveling, Kolund fish frys, and, most importantly, creating special moments with all who spent time in his company. Darrell was a loving, patient and gentle man who was dedicated to his family. He possessed a unique ability to repair things that most of us didn't have the patience or skill to conquer. He was a man blessed with the sensitivity to appreciate and provide for the caring of animals throughout his life. He was an avid fan of Husker and Bluejay sports. Above all, Darrell enjoyed a wonderful meal, a Windsor and water, and time spent with friends and family who remember him as an engaging, and hospitable gentleman whose opinion was respected and whose words were his bond. Darrell passed away peacefully in the restful comfort of his family on Monday, June 09, 2014 at his home in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 14 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Edna. Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 52 blessed years, Leila; daughter Debbie Misfeldt; son Barry Braesch (Curt Boyle); 2 grand-daughters - Hannah Misfeldt (Nolan Salts) and Molly Misfeldt; great-grandson Tyson Salts; brother Dennis (Lois) Braesch; brothers and sisters-in-law - Stanley"Butch" and JoAnn Redel; Gary"Fizzy" and Linda Redel; Larry and Kathy Redel; Gayle(Redel) and John Smith; and Special Aunt Martha Voss; Lois Skow, beloved nieces and nephews - Amy, Eric, Emily, Terry, Tami, Traci, Travis, Scott, and Tiffany - You all hold a special place in his heart.
