Diana Sue Lucas

Diana passed away July 28, 2025 at home with her husband of 46 years holding her hand and her children by her side. She was born April 11, 1959 to Nancy and Dwayne Armbrust. She was a farm girl through and through. She attended District 41, a one room school house and graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1977. She met her husband, Steven Lucas, in Omaha, Ne in 1978 and they were married on March 16, 1979. They began their lives in Omaha and welcomed their first child, Mindy, on July 15, 1979. Their second child, Tom, arrived on Oct 14, 1980 and their third child, Kelly, came on Aug 11, 1983. In 1986, they moved their family to Elkhorn and resided in the Ramblewood neighborhood for the next 36 years. In 2022, her and Steve moved into her parents house after they passed away. Diana worked for the Elkhorn Public Schools in the high school cafeteria. The students loved her as she would sneak extra food onto their plates. In 1996, she became permanently disabled due to a back injury. She then took on stay at home duties with running the kids to their sporting events, rainbow and anything else she could do around the house or for her kids. She was known as the "cool" mom to her kids friends. Diana loved the outdoors and loved to walk. Family vacations consisted of visiting various state parks across the western part of the US. She loved to camp and take hikes. Her favorite vacation spot was Moab, UT. In 2005, Diana became a first time grandma with the arrival of McKenzie Lucas. After Mckenzie came Emma, Kristina, Joey and Richard. She loved her grandkids more than anything. She would attend their sporting events, school programs, grandparents day, 4H activities and taking them to the Zoo every summer. Her family was everything to her. Diane lived a life of pain for 30 years. She learned to live with the pain so it wouldn't keep her away from doing the things she loved. She had multiple back surgeries, had Breast Cancer and most recently diagnosed with Glioblastoma. On June 6, 2025, all of our lives were turned upside down with the initial findings of two brain tumors. For 6 weeks she was in the hospital, Rehab and back to the hospital. All she wanted to do was go home. On July 18, 2025, we received the official diagnosis that the brain tumor was Glioblastoma and there was no treatment available for her. This was the day we decided we would grant her wish and bring her home on July 21, 2025. She arrived home with the many kittens and two dogs greeting her. She was happy to finally be home with her beloved pets and family near by. She was able to see out into the back pasture where she spent many years of her life and watch the sunset one last time. Diana was preceded in death by parents Dwayne and Nancy Armbrust. Survived by husband of 46 years, Steve, children Mindy (Jon) Myers, Steve “Tom” (April) Lucas, and Kelly Royer, grandchildren McKenzie, Emma, Kristina and Richard Lucas and Joseph Royer, siblings Sandy (Cal) Brummund, Laura (Dave) White, and Bill (Diane) Armbrust, sister-in-law Connie Cotterman, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service 10:30 AM Monday, Bethany Lutheran Church, Elkhorn. Interment Prospect Hill Cemetery, Elkhorn. Visitation Sunday 4-7 PM at Reichmuth Funeral Home, Elkhorn. Memorial donations can be made in Diana’s name to an animal shelter of your choice.
