Doris Marie Lundy

Doris Marie Lundy, aged 95, of Fremont, Nebraska, departed this world peacefully on November 20, 2025, leaving behind a profound legacy of love and quiet devotion. Born on April 1, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Herbert Swan and Dorothy Swan, Doris matured in Omaha and completed her education at Omaha North High School in 1947. In June 1947, she married Charles Beaver. This union produced three children: Jerry Lee, Micheal Ray, and Diane Joy. Following their divorce in 1973, she married Duane Lundy on April 1, 1974 at the County Courthouse in Yankton, South Dakota, embarking on a shared journey marked by deep companionship and cherished family bonds. Doris and Duane embraced a vibrant retirement, characterized by recreational vehicle travels that included winters in Texas and summers in Nebraska. They previously established their home in Valley, Nebraska, from 1974 to 1998. Professionally, Doris contributed as a paraprofessional at Valley Elementary School and as a park host at Harlan County Reservoir. She remained an engaged member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Distinguished by her unyielding independence, meticulous routines, and boundless vitality, Doris seldom paused in her endeavors. Her deepest expressions of affection manifested through acts of service, where she intuitively discerned the needs of others, lightened their loads, and infused their lives with tenderness and joy through her thoughtful attentiveness. A fervent admirer of the natural world, country melodies, western cinema, and the hue of blue, she derived solace from simple delights such as coffee prepared with precisely two creams, savory fish dishes, taco pizza, and the elegance of roses. Yet, her most profound fulfillment arose from her unwavering commitment to her family’s well-being. Doris is eternally treasured by a vast and adoring family, who will forever hold dear her nurturing essence, whimsical humor, and resolute faith that every person deserves to be acknowledged, esteemed, and enveloped in love. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Duane Lundy; her parents, Herbert Swan and Dorothy Swan; her siblings, Janice (Jan) & Dennis Middlestat and Patty & Loren Hanson, Bob Swan, Donald & Yvonne Swan, and Dick & Janet Swan; her son, Jerry Beaver; her daughter-in-law, Cyndi Beaver; her stepson, Danny Lundy, and her grandson, Ray Allen Sorenson. Those who survive to honor her memory include her brother, Herbert Swan; her children, Michael Beaver, Diane & Gary Bugg, Donald & Kayte Lundy, Duane Jr. & Joyce Lundy, Vicki & Randy Hubbard; 23 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren, alongside numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends who became family through bonds of the heart. Doris embodied warmth, empathy, and gentle fortitude, extending consolation amid sorrow and radiance in moments of happiness. She imparted a profound sense of belonging to all who crossed her path, and she will be remembered as a luminous spirit who loved with depth, served with humility, and elevated the lives of those she touched, inspiring an enduring heritage of compassion and resilience. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, December 6, 2025 with a gathering of family and friends to follow from 1:30-3pm at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Valley American Legion Auxiliary or a charity of personal significance. A private interment will be held at a later date.
