Dorothy Lois Bauermeister

Dorothy Lois (Baughman) Bauermeister was born January 6, 1927 in Omaha, Nebraska to Thomas Albert and Violet May (Kiser) Baughmah. She was greeted into the family by four sister; Evelyn, Virginia, Vivian, and Helen. Later brothers Bud, T.A. Jr., George Allen, sister Doris Mae, and brother Raymond Lee Baughman. Dorothy grew up in Benson, and attended Rose Hill Elementary School, and graduated from Benson High School in 1945. Her Father was killed in an accident when Dorothy was 13, and she helped raise her younger siblings while living with her mother and grandparents. Dorothy married Fred Bauermeister on October 2, 1945 at the First English Lutheran Church in Omaha. They lived in their first home on 62nd & Shirley St. in Omaha where they were blessed to become parents of Ronald Frederick and Robert Allen Bauermeister. They moved to the farm near Elk City, Nebraska in 1949, and built their present home in 1960-61. In the early 1960's Dorothy's niece came to live with them until she was three. Shari brought her a lifetime of joy. In 1967, they decided that they would adopt a baby girl. Marisue was the answer to their prayer. She was loved by all who knew her, and a friend to everyone she knew. Dorothy worked at Weber Motors after high school, and in retail sales at the International Superstore in Omaha. She later worked as a realtor with Bennington Realty for several years, and ran a Preschool out of the farm for a few years, but most importantly, Dorothy was a loving wife and mother. She was an excellent cook and baker, and loved holding family gatherings at their home, all the way up to Easter this year. She enjoyed shopping trips and caring for horses, but was most content to tend to her garden. Dorothy and Fred became members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington in 1962. The boys joined the choir, and she was an active member of the women’s circle, serving as secretary and President. She and Fred taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. They were both members of the Lutheran Club, and both served on Church Counsel. Fred and Dorothy began spending winters in Sun Lakes, Arizona in 1999, and were associate members of Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Chandler, Arizona. Dorothy continued to winter in Arizona after Fred died in 2004. She will be remembered as a tenacious, passionate and strong-willed woman, who had a deep, unrelenting faith, and an abiding love for her family and her church. Dorothy died at her home with her family by her side on August 14, 2014 at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 8 days. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, daughter Marisue, and brothers and sisters. Dorothy is survived by sons: Ron, and his significant other Nancy King of Omaha, Robert and wife Jean of Huntington Beach, CA, grandchildren: Traci Collins, Matthew, Mark (wife, Gunsu), Chase, and Derek Bauermeister, great grandchildren: Brock Collins, Ivy Collins, and Madylin Bauermeister, brother Raymond and wife Carol Baughman of Thief River Falls, MN, brother-in-law Richard and wife Ella Bauermeister of Oceanview, DE, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Dorothy L. (Baughman) Bauermeister, age 87, of Bennington, died at her home with her family by her side on 8-14-14. Preceded in death by husband Fred, daughter Marisue, brothers and sisters. Survived by sons: Ron, and significant other Nancy King of Omaha, Robert and wife Jean of Huntington Beach, CA, grandchildren: Traci, Matthew, Mark (wife, Gunsu), Chase, and Derek, great grandchildren: Brock, Ivy, and Madylin, brother Raymond and wife Carol Baughman of Thief River Falls, MN, brother-in-law Richard and wife Ella Bauermeister of Oceanview, DE, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorial service 11 AM Tuesday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bennington. Private interment at Flower Hill Cemetery. Visitation Noon to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home in Bennington with family receiving friends from 6-8 PM. Memorials to the church.
