Dorothy Kathleen Stutzman

Dorothy Kathleen Stutzman, age 96 passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024 at the Burwell Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell, Nebraska. Dorothy was born in Waterloo, Nebraska, January 13th, 1928. Her parents were Henry and Emily Kahlandt. Dorothy was a devoted, caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a young waitress at Millers Cafe in the Two Rivers area when Doc Stutzman stopped by and it wasn’t long before the 22-year-olds were married on September 2,1950. The two would be wed for 68 years, until Doc’s passing in 2018. Doc and Dorothy were blessed with four sons, Stephen who passed away within 2 months of birth, Michael, Gregory, and Steve. Together, they built a new home on their farm in Tekamah, Burt County, NE where they raised hogs, chickens, and dogs. Once their boys graduated, it was time for them to cheer on the Huskers from afar, as their journey for Doc’s construction jobs would see the pair making new memories from South Carolina to Wyoming and many points in between. No matter the address, the Stutzman household was one that esteemed hard work and strong values. Nowhere were those values held more dearly than their beloved house on Alta Drive in Las Vegas, NV. It was in Las Vegas that they retired, but retirement for Doc and Dorothy sure didn’t mean not being busy. It was here that they hosted their grandkids. The cousin pool parties were epic, apricot harvests were bountiful, timeless life lessons were taught, and love abounded. Dorothy was Grandma personified. She loved her grandchildren with a generous heart and was always sacrificing her time to make sure they had the best shopping extravaganzas, good meals, and special times when visiting. She was a top-notch organizer with every closet just right. Dorothy was always a snappy dresser who loved to shop. Her hard-working hands were kept busy as a home decorator, fantastic cook, gardener, and knitter. Dorothy’s favorites were Peter the rabbit and schnauzer dogs. She absolutely loved having company come visit, entertaining friends and relatives and there was no one better at setting up family garage sales. She was always up before the sun and if you wanted to spend time with Doc and Dorothy, you could count on them being in the corner booth at Lou’s Diner at 8AM every Saturday, where Grandma always had her one egg and toast. Dorothy is preceded in heaven by her husband, Doc, her sons Stephen and Michael, and siblings George, Glen, Edward (Gus), Delmar, Clarence, Henry, Earl, Florence, and Robert who passed at infancy. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Andrews of Albion, NE, Daughter in Law, Terry, in Burwell, NE, Gregory and Vicki of Loveland, CO and Steve and Kathy of Las Vegas, NV. She was a wonderful Grandma to four grandsons: Brian, Matt, Brandon, and Dillon; two granddaughters: Jamie and Lydia and beloved Great Grandma to nine great grandchildren: Katelyn, Kyle, Kara, Luca, Beau, Adley, Georgia, Alexi, and Archer. Reichmuth Funeral Home, 21901 West Maple Road, Elkhorn, NE will host a viewing open to the public Sunday, March 10, 2024, 4 to 6PM, followed by her funeral service Monday, March 11, 10:30AM. Dorothy’s final resting place will be next to Doc in Mt Auburn Cemetery in Omaha, NE.
