Douglas William Patrick Swift

Douglas William Patrick Swift was born August 6, 2001 in Omaha, Nebraska to Douglas and Sheryl (Harlow) Swift. Douglas was baptized at the Pohocco Lutheran Church near Fremont, Nebraska. He attended kindergarten in Yutan, and would’ve been a first grader there this year. Douglas has lived his life in Waterloo, Nebraska. Douglas was a very energetic youngster. He liked to go fishing and swimming, and enjoyed listening to his favorite country musicians, like Trace Adkins and Rascal Flatts. He had particular cartoons he would watch, especially Sponge Bob and Thomas the Train. He loved playing his video games and watching movies, but he couldn’t wait to go shopping with his aunt Vicki whom he could talk into anything. Douglas made friends wherever he went, whether it was the nurses at the hospital and clinic or people from the Bible School classes he went to at Pohocco and in Waterloo. He was able to go to Camp CoHoLo near Gretna, and even traveled to Adventureland in Des Moines last summer. In October of last year, Douglas was granted his wish from the Make A Wish Foundation and visited Disney World in Florida. Douglas loved spending time with his dog, Buddy, and his cousins, but of course, he loved his Mom most of all. Douglas has fought a courageous battle against cancer for the past two years, but in his too short seven years, he has touched many, many people. He was loved by everyone who knew him, and he will be deeply missed. Douglas passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at the age of 7 years and 25 days. He is preceded in death by his father Douglas Swift, grand parents Larry and Beverly Swift, great grandparents Russell Harlow and Grace Miller, and his uncle Pat Harlow. Douglas is survived by his mother Sheryl Swift, grandparents Kenneth and Carol Harlow of Emmet, Nebraska, and Mary Jo Harlow of Waterloo, NE, great grandparents Bethel Harlow of Valley, and LeRoy Miller of Waterloo, NE, aunts and uncles; Mike and Joan Swift, Bill and Teri Swift, Chris Pfeffer, Mike and Darlene Harlow, Randy and Alicia Harlow, Jack and Vicki Wollen, Ron and Penni Chappelear, his godmother Penny Kershaw, numerous cousins, great aunts, and great uncles.
