Elmer William Schroeder

Oh, how Dad wanted to make it to his 100th birthday! Dad was the seventh of ten children born to Theodore and Elizabeth Schroeder. He and all his siblings were born in the small town of St. Bernard, Nebraska. He was the last of his brothers and sisters to leave this world. He loved his family. He is survived by his wife Luella, sons Mickey (Lou Ann), Randy (Debbie), and TJ (Julee) and his daughter Janie Peterson (Roger). He had seven grandchildren: Molly and Macy (Janie & Roger), Abby and Robin (Mickey & Lou Ann), Cary and Tyler (Randy & Debbie) and Piper (TJ & Julee). He is also survived by his 12 great grandchildren: Mae Mae, Bella and Lillee (Molly & Matt), Kennedy and Koda (Macy & Kyle), Mason, Camden and Vivian (Abby & Chris), Emma (Robin & Bo), and Hudson, Bennett and Amelia (Cary & Jennifer). Elmer was married to the love of his life for 71 years. He was caught holding hands with Lu many times. They shared traveling to India, Europe, the Holy Land, Texas and much more in their retirement. Dad was very proud of the time he spent in the Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean conflict. While raising his family, he worked hard at many things including farming, running a bar, owning and refurbishing a bowling alley and finally ending up as a service manager/technician in the heating and air conditioning industry. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix or build. After his retirement, he spent his time taking care of the German American Society facilities on 120th Street in Omaha. He maintained the grounds by mowing and trimming the landscape, repairing whatever he could, building friendships and helping serving food and beer during the Oktoberfest + German Day events. Elmer was also one of the original members of the Mary Our Queen Parish and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved working the annual MOQ Fish Fries and volunteered his time into his early 90’s. He loved his St. Louis Cardinals, playing cards with friends, carpentry, bowling, dancing, singing around the piano, and visiting with his family and friends. His favorite sport was hands down baseball/softball. He played competitive fast pitch softball in his younger years and then transitioned into slow pitch as he got older. He was pretty good at fast pitch and carried an impressive batting average. We found proof that he was playing fast pitch softball on the day that Janie was born. He shared this love with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Later in life he enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandkids play all sports. He also made many a trip to Texas just to watch his great grandchildren that live there play sports. He will always be missed. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Reichmuth Funeral Home (21901 W. Maple Road, Elkhorn, NE) from 5:00pm to 6:30pm Followed by a Vigil Service at 6:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at St. John’s Catholic Church (307 East Meigs Street, Valley, NE) at 10:30am
