Elsa Ann Phillips

Elsa Ann (Piper) Phillips was called home to Jesus on November 4, 2024. Elsa was born in Walthill, Nebraska where she lived during her childhood. After attending Wayne State college, she taught at a country school in Thurston County. She married Gene Phillips on August 7, 1956. They lived in Lincoln, Spalding and Stanton, Nebraska where they raised their 5 children. Their love story is one of the most beautiful of all times. She was proud to stay at home and raise her children. As her children started to leave the home, she worked in the Stanton Public School system as a para, librarian and secretary to the principal. She was active in the Stanton Methodist Church. Elsa created a warm and nurturing home where her cookie jar was always full of chocolate chip cookies, a warm meal in the oven and Neil Diamond playing on the stereo. Her home had an open door. She loved and cared for other children like she loved her own. There were always one or two extra kids at the kitchen table. She made Christmas not only special for her own children, but spent weeks making Christmas cookies and then delivering baskets of her goodies to those less fortunate. She lived her life with grace, love and compassion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Evelyn (Sailors) Piper; brother, Duane Piper; brother and sister-in-law, Curt and Nancy Piper; son-in-law, Frank Brower; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hill; brother-in-law, Duane Phillips; mother and father-in-law, Lester and Blanche Phillips. She is survived by her husband, Gene Phillips; children: Reva & Dana Altman, Joni Brower, Bret & Jean Phillips, Lesa Verplank, Steve & Jane Phillips; her grandchildren, Jordan, Chase, Spencer, Audra, Grant, Jared, Beau, Elise, Brittany, Luke, Colton, Tara, Dirk, Kirsten, Ryan and Brooke; great- grandchildren: Kael, Knox, Nash, Jade, Timothy, Eleanor, Carter, Nolan, Maddox, Nora, Oliver, Rhea, Ray, Bella, Gabby, Emma and soon to be born baby Marlowe. She is also survived by siblings: Gordon (Virginia) Piper, Dennis (Robbie) Piper, Sally (Ted) Drum, Linda (Ronnie) Fabry, Rhonda (Gary) Hirchert; sisters-in-law, Margaret Piper and Mary Schmedding; brother-in-law, Neil Hill and many friends, nieces, and nephews. She had a special place in her heart for the caregivers at the Country House in Elkhorn. A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 10-11 AM at Reichmuth Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11 AM.
