Gena Le Sikes

Gena “Gigi” L Sikes Gena L Sikes, known to friends and family as “Gigi”, was born February 1, 1949, and passed away January 8th, 2024. She is preceded in death by her parents: Gracie and Norm Schroeder. She is survived by her children: Laine (Dean) Drake, Chase Jansen, Lauren (Reece) Robins-Micek, Chandler Jansen; and grandchildren: Dawson Drake, Willa Robins, and Noah Jansen. After graduating high school, Gigi pursued a career as a compassionate and caring Registered Nurse (RN). Following receiving her RN, Gigi worked in a number of areas including Labor and Delivery, Psychiatric care, Geriatrics, and Community Health, but by far the specialty area Gigi really loved and spent most of her nursing career was within Surgery. She excelled in the Operating Room as an exceptional nurse, often being specifically requested by numerous physicians due to her intelligence, demeanor, expertise, and skill. Gigi’s career also spanned not only most of the Omaha-area healthsystems, but in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area as well. She ultimately retired from Nebraska Medicine in order to devote her time to her “greatest accomplishments” as she would say: her children and being a stay-at-home mom to her two last-born. Gigi was an avid sports fan, having season tickets for Nebraska football for a number of years. You could always talk sports with Gigi; some of her favorite teams besides her beloved Huskers, included the Kansas City Chiefs, Phoenix Suns, and Kansas City Royals. Gigi was a hugely empathetic and loving individual who could talk to anyone. She was passionate and feisty at times and was not afraid to tell you how she felt. Though her health declined as she aged, she remained a positive in so many others’ lives, including her fellow residents who “adored Gigi”. Gigi will be missed beyond expression from her children, grandchildren, and other close friends. Gigi’s children would like to invite those who desire to come celebrate her life on Friday, May 17th at 4:30 at the Elkhorn Cemetery off of 222nd and Wright Street.
