Gene Arnold Geise

Gene was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Glenn and Lenora (Thiessen) Geise on September 3, 1941. He grew up in Elkhorn, graduating from Elkhorn High School in 1959. Shortly after graduating high school, Gene joined the Navy and served until his honorable discharge in November of 1963. After his return from the service, he took some classes at UNO and then began work at an appliance store. For over 20 years, he worked as an estimator in the tile and marble business. Gene met his wife, Edith, when she was working as a waitress at Joe Tess, and the two were united in marriage on April 22, 1978. In his free time, Gene enjoyed hunting, going to the casino where he somehow always won at the penny machine, and watching any type of sport, especially husker football. His favorite food was bread pudding, and his family remembers that they once took him out to eat and he ordered just a large helping of bread pudding for his meal! Gene was a part of the VFW and American Legion, but the Masonic Lodge was most important to him. He was an active member and made many good friends through the organization. At times, Gene could be very stubborn and onery. He also had a fun sense of humor was good man who would go the extra mile for people. In High School, he ended up in German Class even though he had no interest in it because they needed one more to hold the class and he couldn’t help but volunteer. He also never hesitated to let his little brother tag along when he was going out with friends. For the last 15 years, Gene has lived at the Nebraska Masonic Home. As he was a long-time resident, he had many friends there, and all of the nurses said he was always a gentleman who was a pleasure to be around. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Lenora Geise; wife, Edith Geise; brother, Gerald Geise; niece, Tammi Pruch; and grandsons, Dennis and Timothy Bandy. He is survived by his step-daughter, Linda (Earl) Bandy; step-son, John (Suzie) Hardy; sister, Gloria (Marvin) Sass; brother, Gary “Cork” Geise; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Shirley Geise.
