Gerald Wayne George

Gerald Wayne George was born on December 9, 1942 in Omaha, Nebraska to Everett and Maxine (Neely) George. He grew up in Omaha where he attended Sherman grade school and North High School until his sophomore year. Jerry & his family moved to Valley where he graduated from Valley High School in 1961. He worked at the Nebraska State Fish Hatchery and Two Rivers Recreation Area during his high school years. As a young boy, Jerry was athletic and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and finding mischief with his older brother, Ted. Jerry enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served in Vietnam, Okinawa and Hawaii from 1961 through 1966. He was honorably discharged in 1966. Jerry married Linda Sake on July 29, 1967 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Valley, Nebraska and to this union two children were born: JoAnn Marie and Timothy Wayne. Jerry and Linda have raised their family in Valley. Jerry worked for Rob-See-Co as a detasseling foreman and Linda worked as a detassler. They met in the cornfield and in July had just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Jerry also worked for Gambles Warehouse in Fremont, Omaha Overhead Door, and spent the last 26 years with Lyman Richey Sand and Gravel, just retiring last month. He still enjoyed hunting and fishing, his kids and grandkids. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and active in the Boys Scouts. Jerry was a warm and kind man who enjoyed simple things. He could fix or build almost anything, enjoyed helping others, and cherished family time. Jerry passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at the Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 65 years and 24 days. He is preceded in death by his father Everett (Ted), Sr. and brother Everett (Ted), Jr. Jerry is survived by his wife Linda of Valley, Nebraska; daughter and son-in-law JoAnn and Troy Hardman of Valley, Nebraska; son and daughter-in-law Tim and Carrie of Papillion, Nebraska; grandchildren Tyler and Ryan Hardman and Daniel, Zachary and Emilie George; mother Maxine George of Valley, Nebraska; sister and brother-in-law Laura and Paul Peitzmeier of Yutan, Nebraska; in-laws Loretta and Charles Schulz of Valley, Nebraska, and Rick and Ruth Sake of Valley, Nebraska, several nieces, nephews, and friends.
