Iva Dell Hogrefe

Iva Dell Hogrefe was born October 15, 1942 in Auburn, Nebraska to Alfred and Louise (Michel) Hogrefe. Iva grew up in Johnson, Nebraska where she attended Johnson elementary school, and graduated from Johnson High School in 1960. Growing up, Iva was active in Pep Club and the Luther League at her church. Iva married Donald Helms on July 10, 1960 at Hickory Grove Church in Auburn, Nebraska, and to this union, three daughters were born; Stephanie, Kimberly, and Michelle. The family made their home in Gretna, Nebraska. Iva married Douglas Turner on October 18, 1975 at the Sarpy County Courthouse in Papillion, Nebraska. Iva ran her own in home daycare for many years, then went on to work for Control Data, and First Data in Omaha as a vault clerk. She enjoyed going square dancing, attending car shows, and was a huge Husker football fan. She had fond memories of her trip to Alaska, and loved the color blue, red roses, and the music of Elvis Presley. She will be remembered as a strong, spiritual, supportive, loving and self-less woman, who cherished her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Iva died Friday, August 17, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 75 years, 10 months, and 2 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred & Louise, sisters: Elenora Caspers, Betty Buss, Rosalie Wentworth, and Grace Hoss. Iva is survived by her daughters & sons-in-law Stephanie (Sonny) Johnson of Council Bluffs, IA, Kim (Jeff) Karbowski of Elkhorn, and Michelle French of Valley, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and sister & brother-in-law Beverly (John) McLaughlin of Lincoln, NE. Iva D. Hogrefe, age 75, of Valley, died 8/17/18. Preceded in death by parents Alfred & Louise, sisters: Eleanor Caspers, Betty Buss, Rosalie Wentworth, and Grace Hoss. Survived by daughters & sons-in-law Stephanie (Sonny) Johnson of Council Bluffs, IA, Kim (Jeff) Karbowski of Elkhorn, and Michelle French of Valley, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, sister & brother-in-law Beverly (John) McLaughlin. Funeral service 1 PM Tuesday at the funeral home in Elkhorn with visitation from 11-1 prior to the funeral. Interment Prospect Hill Cemetery, Elkhorn. Memorials to the American Cancer Society.
