Jerald Wade Flood

Jerald Wade Flood was born on July 19, 1946 in North Platte, Nebraska to Jack and Viola (Haynes) Flood. He grew up in Valley, Nebraska where he attended grade school and graduated from Valley High School in 1964. Jerry went on to graduate from Omaha University with a Journalism Degree in 1970. As a young boy, Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and sports including football, baseball, basketball, tennis and track. He played the drums in a local combo, treasured his car, a Chevy Super Sport and had an extensive baseball card collection. While in college, Jerry received a journalism award, reviewed movies and was editor of the Omaha University Gateway. Jerry married JoAnn Glover at the Methodist Church in Tindle, South Dakota and they have enjoyed 38 years together and were blessed with one daughter, Jacki. Jerry and JoAnn have always made their home in the Valley and Waterloo area. Jerry has worked for the Omaha World Herald, Valley Stockyards, North Platte Stockyards, Omaha Stockyards, manager at Valley Alleys and Customer Service at Commerce Bank. Jerry was a fun loving man who enjoyed time with his family and friends, highlighted by his annual birthday pig roast. His passion was horse racing and he followed the racing circuit every season. Jerry enjoyed fishing with his grandsons, golf, bowling, Nebraska football especially the tailgating, coaching softball and spectator sports. He and JoAnn loved to vacation including annual trips to Las Vegas. Jerry and his family spent many hours playing “Texas Hold’em”, bridge, chess and board games. Jerry will be remembered as a wonder storyteller whose memory could recall long since forgotten details and trivia related to a multitude of subjects. He was a member of the Victory Masonic Lodge in Valley, Nebraska, UNO Alumni Association, Elkhorn Hills United Methodist Church, Elkhorn Eagles and Sons of American Legion Post #374. Jerry passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at the Life Care Center of Elkhorn, Nebraska with his family by his side at the age of 61 years, 2 months and 12 days. He was preceded in death by his father Jack Flood, mother Viola B. Flood and granddaughter Meredith Danielle Fee. Jerry is survived by his wife JoAnn of Waterloo, Nebraska; daughter and son-in-law Jacki and Stacy Fee of Elkhorn, Nebraska; grandsons Jacob and Joshua; brother and sister-in-law Jack, Jr. and Elaine of St. Petersburg, Florida and sister and brother-in-law Janelle and Gary Baltz of Taylor, Nebraska; step-mother Marge Flood of North Platte, Nebraska.
