Joan Claire Gleason

Joan Claire (Nolting) Gleason was born on October 26, 1932 in Wahoo, Nebraska to John and Clara (Miller) Nolting. She grew in Yutan where she attended grade school and graduated from Yutan High School in 1949. Joan was a good student and was part of a small class with only four girls who were all good friends. Joan married Pete Gleason in 1952 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yutan and they were blessed with three daughters: Donna, Cheryl and Gloria. Joan and Pete lived in Florida, Yutan, Massachusetts and back to Yutan before settling in Valley. Joan worked at Boys Town in the purchasing department for over 32 years. Her duties also included decorating the residences. But Joan’s life revolved around her family. First, with her daughters as she was involved in their activities and taught them the values of homemaking. Joan could not tolerate “messy” and was always cleaning her house. A trait that she has passed down to her family. Then, with her grandchildren, she made each of them feel special individually and they grew up grateful that she took such care to nurture them. Joan was a loving, caring, nurturing woman who could be stern when the occasion required it and would always speak her mind. Her love for the Christmas season was spent making hard candy, baking goods, and spending time with her family. Joan had a sense of style that will never be forgotten. One would never catch her without her makeup on, hair done, and dressed to the nines. She was an avid Husker fan, enjoyed seafood, Black Russians and dinner out at Charleston’s. Her family fondly remembers her signature “aye, aye, aye”. Joan passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at her home in Valley, Nebraska with her family by her side at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 15, days. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Clara, husband Pete and brother Wayne. Joan is survived by daughters Donna Rossitto (Gary Fries) of Omaha, Cheryl (Bob) Danielson of Omaha and Gloria (Jimi) Hughes of Valley; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Matt (Beth) Royuk & Garrett, Reece, and Matalyn, Jeff (Juliet) Jensen & Alex, Sydney, Russell, and Drew, Amanda (Chad) Camenzind & Hannah and Lauren, Corissa (Eric) Hays & Caden, Spencer, and Eli, Tyler (Izchel) Gleason & Sahian, Ian, and A.J. and Tim Jensen & Bryar and Dierks;
