Joan Johnson

Joan Marie (Cramer) Johnson was born on April 3, 1942 in Blair, NE to Lewis and Alta (Hightree) Cramer. Joan’s family moved to Omaha, NE when she was young. There she attended Franklin Elementary School and Omaha Technical High School. On July 24, 1965 Joan married Gary Johnson at First United Methodist Church in Omaha, NE. Joan and Gary were blessed to have three children: Todd, Eric, and Tracy Lynn. Joan and Gary raised their family in Omaha, LaVista, and Papillion before making their home in Elkhorn. While Joan did hold odd jobs at various home interior and crafting stores throughout the years, her primary focus was on raising her children. Once the kids were older, Joan began to run an in-home daycare, and later in life looked after her grandchildren. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother, a faithful wife of 58 years and was always there for her family. Joan and Gary enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing cards with their family. Trips to Aksarben to watch horse racing was a family activity Joan began with her parents and shared with her husband and children. Joan and Gary also loved getting everyone together for the holidays. As an avid Husker fan, she made sure everyone watched their football games. She was an excellent cook, with some of her best dishes being cheesy potatoes and chicken and rice. Joan loved to go shopping to add to her many collections which included porcelain figurines, fine China, and many other types of home décor. Crafting was also a favorite pastime, and she also learned how to sew from her mother. Joan liked to listen to Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carrey and Elvis, and her favorite things to watch on TV included Rom-Coms, Soap Operas and Disney movies. Joan adored all of her pet dogs, most recently Buddy the beagle. In later years, Joan and Gary would travel together and visit casinos with friends. Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Gary L. Johnson; daughter, Tracy Lynn Johnson; granddaughters, Kara and Kamara Johnson; parents, Lewis and Alta Cramer; sister and brother-in-law, Lewis and Judith Bruno. She is survived by sons, Todd, and Eric Johnson; eldest sister and brother-in-law, Carmen and John Housley; grandchildren: Alyssa, Tyler, and Morgan Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church.
