Joann Marie Turner

Joann Marie Turner, age 88 of Elkhorn, died at her home on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 in Elkhorn. She was born the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Leesley) Leaver on June 18, 1929 in Greenwood, Nebraska. She grew up near Waterloo, Nebraska and attended High school in Valley and graduated in 1947. As a young person, Joann liked to knit, crochet, cook, garden and go camping. On April 28, 1968, Joann was united in marriage to Max Turner in Papillion, Nebraska. For a time, they lived in Underwood, Iowa and in 1978, moved into Elkhorn, Nebraska. She was a secretary of Western Electric at the service center for over 24 years. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and hosting Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners. She was a member of the Extension Club and Women’s Coffee Club. Important events in her life were, the birth of her children, marriage to Max, the helicopter ride to the face of Mt. Rushmore. She could be seen supporting the Huskers, drinking coffee, and eating at Jack & Mary’s or Johnny’s Café. One of her pet peeves is people calling on the phone and asking for money. She was quoted as saying; “Its better to love and lost, then to never love at all”. She will be remembered as open, loving, and giving person, a great listener, always concerned about her family and close friends. Joann is preceded in death by: her parents, George and Elizabeth (Leesley) Leaver; a son, George Hansen and a sister, Toby King. She is survived by: her husband, Max Turner of Elkhorn; two sons, Travis Turner of Omaha and Denny Hansen of Des Moines, Iowa; two step-daughters, Diana Rome of Bellevue, NE and Deborah Hill of Rock Springs, WY; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Elkhorn Hills United Methodist Church in Elkhorn with Rev. Rebecca Hjelle officiating. Burial will follow at the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Elkhorn. Visitation will be held from 4 pm until 8 pm on Monday, April 2, 2018 at the Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm. Memorials can be made in her name to Pathways Hospice and can be mailed or left at the funeral home.
