John Paul Miller

John Paul Miller was born September 4, 1935 in Omaha, Nebraska to William and Agnes (Melia) Miller. Growing up, John lived in Valley, Nebraska, moved to Glenwood, Iowa for a time, then moved back to Valley, where he attended high school. As a young boy, John enjoyed playing baseball, and going hunting and fishing, and was known to get in trouble with his brothers. John enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 18. After his honorable discharge, he met the love of his life, Jeris. John married Jeris Sievers on March 26, 1960 at the Saunders County Court House in Wahoo, Nebraska, and to this union, four children were born; Christy, Charlie, Cathy, and John Jr. The family lived in Valley, moved to Yutan, Nebraska, then on the farm north of Yutan, before moving back into town in Yutan. John worked at Lyman-Richey Sand & Gravel before starting at Hormel Meat Packing Plant in Fremont, Nebraska. He enjoyed BBQ’ing, trapshooting, playing horseshoe, tending to his garden, learning about World War II on the History Channel, but most of all, John loved cheering on the Huskers. He was a loyal, honest, classy, and firm, yet easy-going man. He liked to have a beer on occasion, and liked to have a good time. He will be remembered for the love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at the Nye Legacy Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fremont at the age of 80 years, one month, and 14 days. John was preceded in death by his parents William and Agnes Miller, 2 brothers William and Charles Miller, 4 sisters; Mary Love, Eleanor Behrendt, Rita Langdon, and Mary Miller, and grandson Nick Kuhl. John is survived by his wife Jeris, children; Christy Kuhl of Yutan, Charlie Miller of Yutan, Cathy (David) Raver of Nevada, MO, and John Jr. (Briget) of Arlington, NE, grandchildren; Natasha Lorensen, Mandi and Jordan Raver, and Samantha Miller, great grandchildren Kristofer, Lily and Shane, siblings; Coletta Oppliger of Columbus, NE, Marilyn Serfass of Bellevue, NE, Frank (Tim) Miller of Tucson, AZ, Agnes Ewing of Baltimore, MD, and Larry (Carol) Miller of Valley, NE, brother-in-law Glenn (Linda) Sievers, and sisters-in-law; Sherlynn (Steve) Hayes, and Kathleen (John) Lewis, and many nieces and nephews. John P. Miller, age 80, of Yutan, died 10/18/15. Preceded in death by parents, 2 brothers, 4 sisters, and grandson Nick Kuhl. Survived by wife Jeris, children; Christy Kuhl of Yutan, Charlie Miller of Yutan, Cathy (David) Raver of Nevada, MO, and John Jr. (Briget) of Arlington, NE, grandchildren; Natasha Lorensen, Mandi and Jordan Raver, and Samantha Miller, great grandchildren Kristofer, Lily and Shane, siblings; Coletta Oppliger of Columbus, NE, Marilyn Serfass of Bellevue, NE, Frank (Tim) Miller of Tucson, AZ, Agnes Ewing of Baltimore, MD, and Larry (Carol) Miller of Valley, NE. Funeral service 1:30 PM Thursday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Yutan. Interment Hollst Lawn Cemetery, Yutan with military honors. Visitation Wednesday from Noon to 8 PM with family receiving friends from 6-8 PM at the funeral home in Yutan. Memorials to the family.
