Joseph Michael Arkfeld

Joseph M. “Joe” Arkfeld was born June 21, 1956 in Harlan, Iowa to Clarence and Anna Marie (Schmieding) Arkfeld. Joe grew up in Defiance, Iowa and graduated from Harlan High School in 1974. Joe married Mary Lisko on September 5, 1987 at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska. He was the proud father of Melissa, Kelsey, and Trisha. The family made their home in Omaha before moving to Mallard Landing in Valley, Nebraska. Joe worked for many years with Millard Electric as an electrician. Although retired, Joe was always on another side job, or doing odd jobs for family and friends, no matter what the task. It could be anything from fixing a light, to putting ice melt down for a neighbor or helping family or neighbor kids learn to fish, Joe was ready to pitch in. Joe was very much a family man. He loved attending his kids and grandkids sporting events, and even helped coach some of the girls’ team sports while they were growing up. He enjoyed watching his youngest granddaughters grow and teaching them silly things. He loved traveling and spending time with friends and family, from ski trips to Colorado while the girls were younger, to winter trips to warmer climates in recent years. Joe was always up for an adventure and he lived life to the fullest. Joe also enjoyed life on the lake in Valley. He took advantage of the fishing and boating that lake life provided. If Joe was on his ATV dragging the beaches or riding around the lake, Charley would be right there riding along with him. He was also a man of deep faith. The three biggest things in Joe’s life were his faith, family and friends, and he will be missed by all. Joe passed away unexpectedly in York, Nebraska on December 20, 2022 at the age of 66 years, 5 months, and 29 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Anna Marie Arkfeld, his parents-in-law Cliff and Evelyn Lisko, and a brother-in-law Kenneth Hoffmann. Joe is survived by his wife Mary of Valley, his daughters; Melissa (Mark) Maryott of Omaha, Kelsey (Mitch) Randel of Lincoln, and Trisha (Brian) Stolte of Boone, IA, grandchildren Blake Maryott, Olivia Randel, Payton and Bentley Stolte, siblings; Delores Hoffmann, Ronald (Jan) Arkfeld, Gerald (Carolyn) Arkfeld, Dennis (Char) Arkfeld, David (Annette) Arkfeld, Mary Passmore, and Mark (Lori) Arkfeld. Funeral mass 11 AM Tuesday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Valley. Interment at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation Monday from 5-7 PM at the church with a Wake service at 7 PM at church. Memorials to the family for later designation.
