Joyce Ann Salmans

Joyce Salmans died peacefully in her sleep with her family present on November 2, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska. Joyce was born on August 27, 1939, in Hamilton, Kansas, to Vern Burris and Helen Katherine Main. She was one of nine children. She lived most of her childhood years in Larned, Kansas, where she met the love of her life, James Lee Salmans, who predeceased her in 2020. They were married on September 3, 1957, in Larned, Kansas. Their union was blessed with seven children, 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Joyce worked as a clerk and manager for the ALCO store, as a manager for Frills N Fabrics, and at Westlake Hardware store. She was a kind and loving person who always cherished her family and friends. Joyce was an excellent seamstress and loved her flowers and gardening. She very much enjoyed her card games with family and friends. Joyce loved going to garage sales and thrift shopping for bargains. She enjoyed painting and visiting with everyone. Joyce was also a very patient person, but she did not tolerate nonsense. She happily whistled all of the time, particularly when she was known to whistle Country Roads, Take Me Home, when she was winning when playing cards. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and the following sisters and brothers: Marjorie Ilene Bruce, Barbara Joan Dunlap, Earl Vernon Burris Sr., Florence Elizabeth Hall, and James Harrison Burris, Survived by brothers, Larry Dean Burris, John Michael Burris, and Frank Eugene Burris. Her children: Mark Alan (Cindy) Salmans, James Curtis (Katherine) Salmans, Mary Katherine Fischer, Lorrie Ann (Dusty) Morton, Michele Marie (Dan) Stromp, John Paul (Brenda) Salmans, and Angela Beth Killeen. Joyce also adored all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joyce will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but we find comfort that she will be with family and friends in Heaven. Heavenly Father, we ask that You give us the courage to face the challenges ahead without our mother. Help us to find strength in our faith and in the knowledge that she is now at peace in your loving embrace. The family wants to extend special thanks to the staff of Methodist Hospital and the Hospice House for the excellent care provided to our mother. Memorials are suggested to the Hospice House.
