Larry Lawrence Bertelsen

Larry L. Bertelsen was born February 17, 1959 in Fremont, Nebraska to Louis, Sr. and Patricia (Klevemann) Bertelsen. Larry grew up in Yutan, Nebraska where he attended school and graduated from Yutan High School in 1977. Larry was the proud father of his six children: Sara, Eric, Andrew, Kerrie, Dillon, and William. He had made his home in Glenwood, Iowa. Larry worked for many years as a heavy diesel mechanic. He loved classic cars, owning a ’57 Chevy, ’70 Chevy Chevelle, and a Chevy Nova. He cheered proudly for the Green Bay Packers, and could often be found wearing their color green. Larry had to attend an auction every Tuesday, taking Sara with him if she was able. He loved history, and had a great knowledge of historical facts and miscellaneous information. Larry listened to oldies country music, and always liked dinner out at the Pink Poodle or a seafood dinner. His favorite movie was “Chicken Run”, and he enjoyed sipping a lemonade or a soda. More than anything, Larry wanted to fish. His family knows him as the World’s Greatest Fisherman, and remember him often saying, “the fish will hook themselves”. Larry will be remembered as a comedic, loving, caring, man who cherished his children and grandchildren, and had a loving and open heart. Larry passed away unexpectedly at his home in Glenwood, Iowa on October 5, 2014 at the age of 55 years, 7 months, and 16 days. He was preceded in death by his father Louis Bertelsen, Sr. and infant son Eric Michael. Larry is survived by his mother Patricia L. Bertelsen of Fremont, children: Sara (Shawn) Gordon of Malvern, IA, Andrew (Brittney) Bertelsen of Phoenix, AZ, Kerrie (Ryan) Killenbeck (USAF-England) Dillon (Lisa) Bertelsen (USMC-Japan) William Bertelsen of Omaha, 9 grandchildren: Brody Gordon, Jack Gordon, Connor Bertelsen, Mallory Gordon, Reagan Killenbeck, Ryker Bertelsen, Emily Clark, Aurora Bertelsen, and Bailey Bertelsen, siblings: Anita Bertelsen ( Ty Webb) of Rolla, MO, Louis, Jr.(Susie) Bertelsen of Waterloo, NE, Amy (Jason, Sr.) Hansen of Fremont, NE, Lonnie (Kathy) Bertelsen of Ames, NE , Teresa (Tom) Stamper of Fremont, NE, Pattie (Tom) Embrey of Waterloo, NE. Larry L. Bertelsen, age 55, of Glenwood, IA, died 10/5/14. Preceded in death by father Louis Bertelsen, Sr. and infant son Eric Michael. Survived by mother Patricia L. Bertelsen of Fremont, children: Sara (Shawn) Gordon of Malvern, IA, Andrew (Brittney) Bertelsen of Phoenix, AZ, Kerrie (Ryan) Killenbeck (USAF-England) Dillon (Lisa) Bertelsen (USMC-Japan) William Bertelsen of Omaha, 9 grandchildren, siblings: Anita Bertelsen ( Ty Webb), Louis, Jr.(Susie) Bertelsen, Amy (Jason, Sr.) Hansen, Lonnie (Kathy) Bertelsen, Teresa (Tom) Stamper, Pattie (Tom) Embrey. Funeral service 1 PM Friday at the funeral home in Yutan. Interment Hollst Lawn Cemetery, Yutan. Visitation 4-8 PM Thursday with family receiving friends from 6-8 PM at the funeral home in Yutan.
