Larry Elwin Saunders

LARRY ELWIN SAUNDERS, born on August 30, 1964, in Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on May 27, 2024, at the age of 59 in Omaha, Nebraska. Larry was a kindhearted individual who never met a person he didn’t like. Larry graduated from Waterloo High School and began his career with Vencil Construction, working for over 20 years, honing his carpentry skills. In 2005, he established Saunders Construction, where he took pride in using his mastery carpentry skills for home improvement projects, always insisting on doing things the “Larry Way”. Larry married the love of his life, Janice Hansen on August 11,1990. They both loved to play softball. Janice taught Larry to golf and Larry taught Janice how to camp, fish, and hunt. They shared their love of the outdoors, working in the garden so they could make their famous salsa. Larry’s love for high school sports was evident as he would take time off work each year to attend state competitions and share his enthusiasm with his family and friends, especially his daughter, discussing hockey and Lancer games. A fixer at heart, Larry would repair things that others discarded, showcasing his craftsmanship skills. His daughter, Josie, was the apple of his eye, and he dedicated countless hours to camping, fishing, attending sporting events, and supporting her in Special Olympic activities. Larry’s other hobbies included trying new beers and traveling with his family to complete the Nebraska Passport. He had a passion for camping, fishing, and hunting, with Valentine, Merritt Reservoir being his favorite destination where he formed close friendships with the locals. Larry will be deeply missed by his surviving family members: wife Janice Saunders, daughter, Josie Saunders, parents, Lee and Eunice Saunders, sister, Penny (Mike) Kershaw, sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosie (Tim) Roll, Mary (Bill) Smith, Agnes Neal, Karen (David) Jackson, Tim Hansen, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Delores and Harlan Hansen, and brother-in-law, Ted Hansen. Larry Elwin Saunders will be remembered for his kind spirit, dedication to his family, love for the outdoors, and craftsmanship that touched the lives of many. May he rest in peace. Memorials are suggested to the Special Olympics-Fremont or to the family for later designation.
