Lois Jean McArdle

Lois Jean (Andersen) McArdle was born on August 13, 1935 in Florence, NE to Ray and Genevieve (Humston) Andersen. She grew up in Valley, NE and graduated from Valley High School in 1953. She worked for several companies in Omaha before marrying Dennis E. McArdle of Waterloo, NE on February 12, 1955. They were married almost 59 years when Dennis passed away in 2014. They were blessed with 4 children: Tom, Mary, Jim and Jon. As the family started to grow, the couple moved to Elkhorn, NE where Lois resided for over 60 years. Lois had a child in the Elkhorn Public Schools for 28 consecutive years, making her life as a homemaker full of happy memories. She particularly loved attending the high school track meets. The family enjoyed many road trips throughout Nebraska and the surrounding states. In their retirement years, she and Dennis took longer trips across the country. They traveled with their camper to town celebrations and country music festivals across Nebraska. While on their adventures, Lois took photos of the local landmarks in every small town they visited, accumulating hundreds, if not thousands, of pictures, which she stored in boxes, alphabetized by town name. She could remember almost every photo she took. Lois’ greatest joy was being a grandmother, and she attended many of her grandchildren’s activities, including sporting events, music programs, marching band contests and dance recitals. Lois also loved her job as #1 babysitter for her grands. Lois passed away at her residence of 62 years on June 13, 2023 at the age of 87 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister Mary Lou Andersen. She is survived by her children, Tom (Lynette) McArdle, Lincoln ,NE; Mary McArdle, Omaha; Jim (Tracie) McArdle, Gretna, NE; Jon (Susan) McArdle, Omaha; 7 grandchildren, Sara (Chris) Stevenson, Matthew (Stephanie Rabiola) McArdle, Caitlin (Ben) Egidy, Halie McArdle, Ryan McArdle, Maia McArdle and Zach McArdle; and one brother, Milo Andersen of Weatherford, TX. A private service will be held at Omaha National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials to Elkhorn Public Schools Foundation or Elkhorn Historical Society.
