Lois Lenita Reid

Lois Lenita Reid, age 93 of Elkhorn, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2012 at Marquis Place in Elkhorn, Nebraska. Lois was born on June 18, 1918 to Frank and Mary (Blunt) Dakan of Sedalia, Colorado, on the Dakan Homestead and Ranch. She was one of three siblings: an older brother, Frank William “Bill” and her identical twin sister, Louise Evelyn. Lois lived on the ranch until she married Dan Reid on January, 7, 1939. The newlyweds then moved to a neighboring ranch. They lived the country life until moving to Castle Rock, Colorado in 1944. Lois and Dan had three daughters: Sue, Faye and Mary Louise. Lois was active in the country nursing program in the schools and the Douglas County Republic Women’s Club. She was a 4-H leader and tireless supporter of the high school’s activities and athletic programs. Lois and Dan moved to Omaha in 1986 to be near their daughters and families. Lois worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for the local Ford Dealership; she was a rural mail carrier, and later she worked for Ensign Bickford making and testing explosive fuse cord. She was active in St. Philip-in-the-Field and St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Churches and their guilds. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dan; her brother, Bill Dakan and sister, Louise Christensen; and her grandson, Todd Richardson. Mrs. Reid is survived by her daughters: Mary Dahlstrom of McFarland, Wisconsin, Sue Atchley (Wayne) and Faye Couch (Jack) all of Omaha; six grandchildren: Troy and Travis Richardson, Zach and Tisha Atchley, Shannon Watry and Tiffany Byrkit; eight great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Memorial Services held Monday, March 12th at 2 PM at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church in Elkhorn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 285 S. 208th Street, Elkhorn, NE 68022; or Bear Canyon Cemetery ~ Bud Curtis Tree Fund, P.O. Survived by daughters and sons-in-law Sue & Wayne Atchley of Elkhorn, Faye & Jack Couch of Omaha, and Mary Louise Dahlstrom of Wisconsin, grandchildren: Shannon Watry, Zachary Atchley, Tiffany Byrkit, Tisha Atchley, Troy Richardson, and Travis Richardson, 8 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Memorial service Monday, March 12, 2012, 2 PM at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 285 S. 208th St., Elkhorn. No visitation. Inurnment in Sedalia, CO at a later date.
