Lora Lee Fletcher

Lora Lee Eklund was born January 31, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa to Daryll and Helena (Moore) Eklund. Lora grew up in Des Moines until the family moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa when she was about 10. She graduated from Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln High School in 1949. As a young girl, her family attended the Episcopal Church. Lora married Glenn Fletcher at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn, Nebraska in 1983, and became step-mom to Glenn’s daughter, Sue. Lora and Glenn lived in Omaha, and were in the process of building a log home near Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, when Glenn passed away from cancer in 1985. Following Glenn’s passing, Lora saw the completion of their log home, living there until moving to Gretna. Lora worked for many years as an underwriter for Aetna and EMC Insurance. She was a member of the Audubon Society, and loved to go bird watching, or feeding the birds at Chalco Hills Recreational Area in Omaha. She loved being out in nature, and cherished time spent with Glenn at the river, and camping in their motor home. Lora could be found daily out to lunch, even if she were by herself, and enjoyed dining out for dinner, too. She was a feisty red-head, who could be ornery, but will be remembered for her sweet side, and her great sense of humor. Lora passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 82 years, 2 months, and 16 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Daryll and Helena Eklund, husband Glenn Fletcher, and brothers: Daryll and Delbert Eklund. Lora is survived by her sister Anne Nielson of Oxford, OH, stepdaughter Sue Behr, niece Karen Anderson, and nephew Scott Fletcher, all of Omaha, grandchildren: Melissa, Dan, and Madeleine, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends Gary and Pam Siebe. Lora L. Fletcher, age 82, of Omaha, died 4/16/13. Preceded in death by parents Daryll and Helena Eklund, husband Glenn Fletcher, and brothers: Daryll and Delbert Fletcher. Survived by sister Anne Nielson of Oxford, OH, stepdaughter Sue Behr, niece Karen Anderson, and nephew Scott Fletcher, all of Omaha, grandchildren: Melissa, Dan, and Madeleine, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends Gary and Pam Siebe. Funeral service Saturday, 1 PM at the funeral home in Elkhorn. Interment Prospect Hill Elkhorn. Visitation Friday from 2-8 PM with family receiving friends from 6-8 PM. Memorials to the Nebraska Humane Society.
