Loretta M Schulz

Loretta Marie “Tootsie” Krutilek Sake Schulz was born on August 19, 1928 to Cyrill and Ellen (Nestor) Krutilek. She grew up south of Valley where she attended District #24 grade school and Valley and Waterloo High Schools, graduating from Waterloo High school in 1946. As a young girl, Tootsie enjoyed drawing, her dogs, spending time with her brother and sisters, and working for a grocery store in Waterloo. Loretta married Kenneth Sake on June 22, 1946 at the family home in Waterloo, Nebraska and they were blessed with two children: Linda and Rick. Kenneth passed away in 1977 and Tootsie married Charlie Schulz in May 19, 1982. Loretta worked for a while at Plettner’s Thriftway and Ken’s Jack and Jill in Valley and was an “Avon Lady” for many years but first and foremost she was a wife and homemaker. She enjoyed eating out, playing bingo and enjoyed the trips across the river to the casino. Tootsie loved to decorate, wallpaper and remodel. She was a Girl Scout leader, a member of Lioness and The Roundtable. She was very active in her church where she was a charter member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She was an active member of the Faith Circle at church. She rarely missed going to church every Sunday. Tootsie enjoyed watching sports, especially her beloved Cornhuskers and going to the games with Charlie. She liked being outdoors and working with her flowers. She was caring and loving yet strongly opinionated and very good at giving instructions. Tootsie looked forward to trips to China Buffet for crab legs. Grandma Tootsie loved her grandkids and great grandkids and liked to spoil them with pizza and pop. Loretta passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Valhaven Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her parents Cyrill and Ellen, husband Kenneth, brother Walter (Sonny) Krutilek and sisters Dorothy Flynn and Ruth Kahlandt and son-in-law, Jerry George . Tootsie is survived by her husband Charlie; daughter Linda George; son and daughter-in-law Rick and Ruth Sake all of Valley; 5 Grandchildren: JoAnn (Troy) Hardman, Valley; Tim (Carrie) George, Papillion; Kelli (Tripp) Sutter, Elkhorn; Kristi (Dan) Trost, and Kyle Sake, Waterloo and 10 great grandchildren; Sisters-in-law Betty Krutilek of Oakland, NE and Lois Bargar of Fremont, NE; brother-in-law Mel Schulz of Elkhorn and many nieces, nephews and friends.
