Lyle Kevin Olson

Lyle Kevin Olson was born on November 18, 1961 in South St. Paul, Minnesota to Dennis and Joyce (Phillips) Olson. He grew up in Valley where he graduated high school in 1981. As a young child in Minnesota, he would go to neighbors’ houses for breakfast telling each neighbor that he hadn’t had breakfast yet, just to get a good variety from them. He ended at Cousin Caroline’s, the babysitter’s house, that he was intended to go straight to after completing his breakfast tour. Lyle was an adventurous kid. He had a horse named Sugar and a potato chip-loving goat named Priscilla. The trio had many wild west adventures by day and by night. He would sneak out of the house to ride the neighbor, Grandpa Safford’s, hogs and then sneak back in and go to bed. Lyle and Peggy were married August 28, 1983 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Valley. From this union three children were born: Andy, Lisa, and Savannah. Life was never dull while raising three children. At times he would wake them up with air horns or by throwing cups of ice water at them when he thought they had enough sleep. When he wasn’t causing chaos at home, he was working alongside his mom, brothers, and sister at Two-Way Trucking. After his mom’s retirement he worked at Nebraska Atlantic Transportation, then finally started Olson Motor Lines with Peggy, Andy, and Savannah until his retirement. Some of the most important events in Lyle’s life were marrying Peggy, having his 3 children and later all 7 of his grandchildren. He was most proud of earning a profit with Granny after a hard first year trucking on their own. Lyle enjoyed going on many Lyle and Lyla (Avery) Adventures. Those who knew him well knew if you were to receive texts from Lyle, you’d understand that an immediate response was necessary, or you’d be receiving many texts reading “Hello!” until you replied. Some of his favorite sayings he often used were “Yeppers”, and “Shake and bake, baby. Shake and bake.” Generous, kind, hilarious, ridiculous, and one-of-a-kind were some words that could be used to describe Lyle. He was always making people laugh hysterically or get fuming mad. He had a “knack” for pissing people off, especially Peggy. Lyle was a natural born salesman and smartass. He had many fictitious professions such as doctor, blender salesman, plastic surgeon, handyman, and dog trainer just to name a few. Lyle wasn’t at all picky when it came to food. He would eat anything so long as he knew where it came from, who made it, and how it was cooked. He loved Big Fred’s or dreaming up the most insane food combinations mostly to be found inedible by anyone. Lyle enjoyed cheering on the Huskers, or whoever was winning. He loved watching his granddaughter, Leigha, play volleyball and basketball on YouTube or in person when he was able. He was an excellent golf coach to many people throughout the years. He loved loud music and would often play the air guitar or drums. He loved people and never met a stranger. He was painfully funny and minced no words in telling friends that Avery was his favorite of the 7 grandkids but loved them all equally. Avery was the go-to Lyle whisperer; if anything was needed from Lyle, you were best served to tell Avery and have her tell Grandpa to almost always get it. He was so proud of his “well trained dog” Sheldon. Lyle passed away in Elkhorn, Nebraska on February 2, 2024 with his friends and family by his side. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; children: Andy (Audrey), Lisa (Chris), and Savannah (Shane); grandchildren: Leigha, Paige, Hannah, Avery, Emily, Henry, and June; siblings: Scott, Jeff, and Denise. He is preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Dennis Jr. VISTIATION: 4-7PM, Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30AM, Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Valley, NE. Memorials can be made to the family for later designation.
