Margaret Ann Kohlhaase

Margaret Ann Kohlhaase, age 94, passed away peacefully at Marquis Place in Elkhorn, Nebraska, on December 31, 2024. She was born on October 25, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska, to John and Elizabeth (Barna) Bennett. Margaret was the youngest of 11 children and graduated from Omaha North High School. While working at Hayden House, Margaret met her future husband, William Heathley Kohlhaase. The two were married on June 15, 1948, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Omaha. Together, they had four children: William John, Karen Louise, David Lyn, and Carol Irene. The family first made their home in the Benson area before moving to Elkhorn in May 1967. Margaret and Bill were in the restaurant business for three years, and Margaret also worked at Boys Town and as a waitress. She brought many smiles to customers at Daylight Donuts in Elkhorn. However, her greatest joy was being a loving mother and grandmother. Margaret treasured attending her children’s and grandchildren’s school and extracurricular activities, always supporting them with love and enthusiasm. Margaret was a charter member of Elkhorn Hills United Methodist Church and later joined Zion Lutheran Church. Her faith and her family were at the core of her life. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and hosting family get-togethers, which were filled with laughter and warmth. An avid bridge player, Margaret participated in both women’s and couples’ bridge clubs. She was also a devoted College World Series fan, holding season tickets for many years. Margaret loved volunteering as a poll worker during elections, playing bingo and making occasional trips to the casino. In October 2024, Margaret joyfully celebrated her 94th birthday surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. It was a day full of love and laughter. Margaret is survived by her sons, Bill (Jeri Rudolph) of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and David (Deb) of Arnolds Park, Iowa; daughters Karen (Larry Neuhaus) of Bennington, Nebraska, and Carol Lehn (William Sutton) of Elkhorn; seven grandchildren: Jason (Hallie) Neuhaus, Shannon (Matt) Blair, Jeffrey (Brenna) Neuhaus, D.J. (Pamela) Kohlhaase, Jamie Kohlhaase, Evan Lehn, and Corey Lehn; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, and all of her siblings. Visitation and funeral services will be held Friday, January 3, 2025, at Reichmuth Funeral Home, Elkhorn. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by the funeral at 10:30 AM and interment at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Elkhorn. Memorials may be made to Endless Journey Hospice, Omaha, Nebraska. The family would like to thank Marquis Place of Elkhorn for their many years of love and care for our mother. We would also like to thank Endless Journey Hospice for their support in the final months of our mother’s life.
