Margaret Mary Warstat

Margaret Mary Warstat was born January 8, 1920 in Krakow, Nebraska to Joseph and Mary (Bronsynski) Rozmus. She grew up in Krakow where she attended school through the 8th grade. As a young girl, Margaret developed the spirit of a caregiver, and greatly enjoyed cooking, baking, and decorating cakes. Margaret married Chris f. Warstat on September 26, 1940 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska, and to this union, six children were born: JoAnn, Christian, Dennis, Janice, Joyce, and Judy. The family made their home in Elkhorn, Nebraska for many years. Margaret worked as a Lab tech, and as a caregiver, but spent most of her years as a cook and cake decorator. She finally retired as cook from Joe’s Café in Benson in 2006. She enjoyed baking and sharing her food with everyone, and everyone knew she made the best kolaches! Margaret was a woman with a strong Catholic faith, and she prayed daily for all her family. She was a caring, loving, devoted Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother, who was proud of all of her family, and participated in all of their activities. She enjoyed her sauerkraut, skinny pancakes, kolaches, and coffee with cream. Margaret will be remembered for being a wonderful mother, who always put others first, and helped out whenever she could. Margaret passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at the Gretna Community Living Center in Gretna, Nebraska at the age of 94 years, 7 months, and 23 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Chris F., daughter JoAnn, sons; Christian and Dennis, four brothers and two sisters. Margaret is survived by her daughters: Janice (Gene) Korten of Ralston, NE, Joyce (Jack) Sobotka of Norfolk, NE, Judy (Steve) Samson of Omaha, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren, and sister Mary Ann Quinn of Waterloo, Iowa. Margaret M. Warstat, age 94, of Gretna, formerly of Elkhorn, NE, died 8/31/14. Preceded in death by parents, husband Chris F., daughter JoAnn, sons; Christian and Dennis, four brothers and two sisters. Survived by daughters: Janice (Gene) Korten of Ralston, NE, Joyce (Jack) Sobotka of Norfolk, NE, Judy (Steve) Samson of Omaha, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren, and sister Mary Ann Quinn of Waterloo, IA. Funeral Mass 10 AM Thursday, 9/4, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gretna, Reverend Michael Grewe officiating. Interment Prospect Hill Cemetery, Elkhorn. Visitation Wednesday from Noon to 7 PM at the funeral home in Elkhorn, with family receiving friends from 5-7 PM and a Wake service at 7 PM. Memorials to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gretna.
