Martin George Henjes

Martin George Henjes, age 87, of Bennington, Nebraska, passed away on March 14, 2026. Martin was born June 6, 1938, in Walthill, Nebraska, to Henry and Marie Henjes. He grew up with his siblings Herbert, Agnes, Vernon, and Larry. He was a confirmed and active member at Walthill Lutheran Church. Martin attended Plainview Country School through eighth grade and graduated from Walthill High School in 1956. After high school, he completed training as a television repairman. In 1960, Martin married the love of his life, Linda Doht Henjes, and they shared 65 years of marriage. Together, they built a life centered on faith and family while raising their four children in Walthill, Nebraska: Nancy Ballard, Doug Henjes, Debbie Meyer, and Karen Stansberry. Martin owned and operated a television sales and repair store before later owning the Pump and Pack convenience store in Walthill, Nebraska, with the help of family and friends. He also enjoyed farming and helping neighboring farmers, being a familiar and friendly presence in the community. Martin was known for his dry humor and quick wit, and those who knew him will always remember him as one of the funniest, most quick-witted, and loving men. He was wise beyond measure, incredibly smart, and lived his life with discipline and quiet strength. His sense of humor brought laughter to those around him and was one of the many things people cherished most about him. In 2002, Martin and Linda sold the Pump and Pack and moved to Bennington, Nebraska. In his later years, Martin enjoyed tinkering in his shed, caring for his tractors, playing cards, and taking pride in maintaining a beautiful yard. Martin is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Linda Henjes; his siblings, Agnes Deal, Vernon Henjes, and Larry Henjes; his children, Nancy Ballard; Doug Henjes and his wife, Shana; Debbie Meyer; and Karen Stansberry and Brian Robinson; his grandchildren, Bailey Janicek and Trent Ballard (children of Nancy Ballard); Jake, Kennedy, and Bennett Henjes (children of Doug and Shana Henjes); Justin, Jeremy, and Jason Meyer (children of Debbie Meyer); and Tyler and Bryn Stansberry (children of Karen Stansberry); and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Marie Henjes; his brother, Herbert Henjes; and his son-in-law, Matt Ballard, husband of Nancy Ballard. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Visitation will be held before the service from 9:30-10:30 am. Burial will take place at Prospect Cemetery, Elkhorn, Nebraska. Memorials may be directed to Linda Henjes and will be distributed at a later date. Those who knew Martin will remember his wisdom, humor, and steady presence. And as he would often say with a smile, “That’s just the kind of guy I am.”
