Mary Barbara Pulte

Mary Barbara “Barb” Pulte was born on February 10, 1939 in Grand Rapids, MN and later graduated from Webster Grove High School in Webster Grove, MO in 1957. She then moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she met her soulmate. Barb married Donald Pulte in 1959 in Papillion, Nebraska. They raised their family in their 69th St. home in Omaha. Barb worked at Northwestern Bell, which later became US West, as a payment clerk. She worked her way up in the company and became the payroll supervisor until her retirement in 1989. Barb enjoyed her retirement years with her husband doing many things, such as canoeing, camping, and traveling the country. Barb and Don had a camper for many years on the Missouri River and enjoyed many weekends sitting around the campfire sipping margaritas. They also enjoyed wintering in Florida, Texas, and finally settling in Apache Junction , Arizona from 1990 to 2013. Barb was a very creative person and hand made her own furniture, a rock wall in her front yard, a beautiful pond with three waterfalls in her back yard, and many other things. She had a soft spot for all animals, especially, dogs and cats. In her spare time, Barb loved reading the newspaper and the Reader’s Digest. Barb was a very strong, intelligent, and organized person. She especially enjoyed her backyard and visiting with her longtime neighbor Dawn, over the fence. Her favorite restaurant was the Bohemian Cafe, which the entire family grew to love, also. Both she and Don enjoyed their monthly dinner trips to Romeo's with the Martin's. Barb passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 76 years and 28 days. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Don; parents Carlton and Mary Colleen Peterson; sister and brother-in-law Diane and Stew Shapero; in-laws Joe and Cecelia Pulte, Tiny and Virgil Kinman and Bernie and Helga Pulte. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Michael McKay and Chris Shaw, Pat and Sandi Pulte, Bob and Michaela Pulte all of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law Colleen and Jeff Starman of Valley; grandsons Zachrey and Colton Starman. Survived by sons and daughter-in-law Michael McKay and Chris Shaw, Patrick and Sandi Pulte and Bob and Michaela Pulte all of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law Colleen and Jeff Starman of Valley; grandsons Zachrey and Colton Starman. Visitation Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 PM at St. Pius X Catholic Church (69th and Blondo) with a vigil service at 7:30 PM. Funeral Mass Friday at 10:30 AM at St Pius X. Entombment Calvary Cemetery. Memorials to the family.
