Memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church Patricia Ann Kirchmann Zaugg was born on July 9, 1941 in Omaha, Nebraska to Vern and Mabel (Phelan) Kirchmann. Pat grew up in the Saunders County area including Wahoo, Mead, Yutan and Cedar Bluffs. She graduated from Cedar Bluffs High School in 1958. She then studied elementary education at Wayne State College. As a little girl, she loved to polka dance with her father and uncles, often done right in the kitchen. Pat met the man of her dreams, Wes, first noticing him while he was driving a stock car. They were married January 26, 1963 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yutan, Nebraska. Pat and Wes had three children; Shelly, Marsha and Cindy. They resided in Yutan, Nebraska, living on the Zaugg family farm for 52 years. Pat worked as a para at Yutan Public Schools, a clerk at Stange Grocery in Yutan, an office manager at Nelson Chiropractic in Omaha and her favorite and most important job-Mom! Pat taught 4-H for years and enjoyed watching her girls show lambs. She was a member of the Evening Bells Extension Club which provided many laughs and good times with friends. She was known to have the best bean walking crew in the town of Yutan. Well, at least north of town! Pat and Wes enjoyed travelling. Pat liked to watch for ‘population’ signs on their “Tour of Nebraska” road trips. One sign in particular read “Town of 300 Happy People and a few Crabby Ones”. Pat enjoyed sewing, quilting, golfing, helping at church and following the Yutan basketball teams. She was a courageous, compassionate, nurturing woman, always providing support to the family. Pat and Wes have 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. They enjoyed following their grandchildren’s activities. The grandchildren will tell you that she told the best bedtime stories! As Pat would say, “Love you all to the moon and back”! Pat passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Brookestone Meadows in Elkhorn, Nebraska at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 5 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Vern and Mabel, in-laws Alvin and Alice and numerous aunts and uncles. Pat is survived by her husband Wes; daughters and sons-in-law Shelly and Brian Steinkruger of Yutan, Marsha and John Badders of Omaha and Cindy and Shannon Pickworth of Lenexa, KS; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brother Richard (Wilma) Kirchmann of Cedar Bluffs, NE; sister Jean (Jim) Brown of Fremont; ; Visitation Sunday noon to 6 PM with family receiving friends from 4 to 6 PM at the funeral home.
