Paul R Brown

Paul Richard Brown ("Rick") was born on April 8, 1939 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Paul and Adele (Morrisey) Brown. He grew up in New Jersey where he attended Catholic Grade School and graduated from Bayley Ellard High School in Madison, New Jersey in 1956. Rick was a member of the class of 1963 of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland with a degree in engineering. As a young boy, Rick enjoyed football, summers at his uncle’s farm and taking the train and subway to Dodger stadium baseball games. Rick married Selma “Dottie” Keller on May 28, 1967 at the St. James Episcopal Church in Hackettstown, New Jersey and to this union two children were born: Tim and Susan. Rick and Dottie raised their family in Hackettstown, New Jersey, Oak Park, California and Elkhorn, Nebraska. Rick has worked as a pharmaceutical representative for Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals, a firefighter for East Orange, New Jersey Fire Department and in the information technology profession at New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry, M&M Mars Inc, Acton in Lincoln before becoming a consultant and principal with SDI in Omaha. Rick enjoyed boating, deep sea fishing, vacations to Long Beach Island, computers, raising his Labrador retrievers and football especially the annual Army-Navy game. Through all of this his greatest pleasure was working for 20 years as a volunteer fireman for Hackettstown, New Jersey. He has been an active volunteer at Lakeside Hospital. Rick and Dottie are members of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Elkhorn. Rick enjoyed a strong bond with his family and became affectionately known as “Grampa Nanny” to his grandchildren. In recent years, Rick and Dottie enjoyed some retirement in their home in Florida. Rick passed away on Friday, January 1, 2010 at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 24 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Adele. Rick is survived by wife Selma “Dottie”; son and daughter-in-law Timothy and Michelle of LaVista, NE and daughter and son-in-law Susan and Darrell Ziola of Elkhorn, NE; 5 grandchildren; Katie healey, Kassidy and grace Brown, Stephanie and Jacquelynn Ziola.
