Richard Dave "Rich" Husak

It is with a heavy heart that we learned that our brother, Richard Dave “Rich” Husak, passed away on December 21, 2025 in South Korea at the age of 74 years. Richard was born on August 20, 1951 to Joe and Mary Ellen (Drews) Husak. Richard graduated from Yutan High School in 1970 and after graduation enlisted in the United States Air Force after drawing a low number (49) in the draft. After leaving the USAF, he majored in computer science and then continued his work with the U.S. Government mostly stationed in South Korea before returning to the states. In the 1990s, Richard was working in Daegu, South Korea at Camp Walker as the chief of the Data Center in the 169th Signal Company. He eventually went to Seoul and was working as the chief of the Regional Chief Information Office – Korea. Richard retired from the DoD as a GS-15 CIO. According to his colleague, Richard was a dedicated IT Professional who was respected by his colleagues within the Army Signal Community in Korea. He took pride in his military career and being a Viet Nam vet, his commitment in serving for the US government, and giving back to the U.S. veterans. Richard met the love of his life, Chom Son Kim, while serving for the USAF in South Korea. They recently celebrated 53 years of marriage. Beyond his career, Richard took immense pleasure in golfing. Richard and Kim were passionate about the sport and valued the friendships it brought, often dedicating hours to playing a game they truly enjoyed. When returning on vacation to the states, they enjoyed going fishing with his parents to Gavins Point Dam. They bought their first home in Louisianna when they returned from South Korea. They were devastated and lost everything when it was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Richard is survived by his wife, Chom Son Kim; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy (Roger) Anderson of Omaha, NE, Carol (Terry) Widman of Yutan, NE; sister-in-law Son Young Kim and extended family in South Korea; nieces and nephews Sary (Joe) Aliano, Steve (Jackie) Anderson, Mike (Sherry) Anderson, William (Kristen) Widman, Amy (Jeff) Hollifield; great nieces and nephews Aidan, Ashton, Brookley, and Brinley Backes, Jadyn and Kohl Anderson, Owen and Ethan Anderson, Wyatt and Ellianna Widman, and Elijah and Junah Godinez; aunts JoAnn Drews and Wilma Husak, as well as many cousins and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Mary Ellen Husak, grandparents William and Elsie Drews and John and Josephine Husak, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. Kim’s family held a funeral in South Korea and his ashes were interred in the family charnel. No service will be held in Omaha. Memorials are suggested in his memory to the Yutan Veteran’s Club.
