Robert Owen Fitton

Bob Fitton was born in Fairbury, NE on October 10th, 1949. As a young boy living in Omaha, his little league baseball team made it to the regional championships of the Little League World Series. While spending over 7 years in Germany during his teenage years, he became very fluent in the German language and developed numerous friendships. He made it back to the states for his last two years of high school and graduated in Detroit, Michigan. After high school, Bob attended the University of NE-Lincoln, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business. From there he started his lifelong career of working retail in the Omaha area. He started his career at Richmond Gordman, worked over 25 years at Target, and ended his career at Staples. During his 35 years of retail, Bob had many great career accomplishments; but everyone would agree; his finest accomplishment was meeting his wife, Debbie. Bob and Debbie were married May 31, 1975 in Omaha after only a few short months of dating. In November 1976, they were blessed with their first child, Derrick and in August of 1982, their daughter Jennifer was born. Bob made it known to everyone how proud he was of his children and their accomplishments. While he thought his life was fulfilled with Debbie, Derrick and Jennifer, his spirit was reborn with the birth of his grandchildren, Ryan (3 years) and Morgan (4 months). It was hard to ignore the pure enjoyment and pride in his face while wrestling around and tickling Ryan or when he saw his granddaughter for the first time. Even though his life was cut short, we can all have peace with knowing that he had those wonderful times with his children and grandchildren. Bob faced a very tough battle with cancer over the last two years. Always with a positive attitude, he endured extensive chemo therapy treatments and two major surgeries. Bob was dedicated to living his life fully and not letting the cancer control him. On October 19th, while enjoying a round of golf, Bob suffered a massive heart attack. Bob passed away peacefully in the presence of his wife and children on October 22nd, 2008 at Lakeside Hospital. We would like to thank our friends and family for the prayers and support they have given us during this difficult time and to the doctors & nurses, thank you for making Bob’s last days comfortable.
