Robert Francis Leaden

Robert Francis Leaden was born on July 11, 1938 in Omaha, Nebraska to Cyril and Mary (Smith) Leaden. He grew up in Omaha where he attended St. John’s grade school and graduated from Cathedral Catholic High School in 1956.As a young man, Bob took an early interest in cars and mechanics that followed him his whole life. He also enjoyed small planes and was taking flying lessons. Bob married Darlene Biel on November 12, 1960 at the Omaha Cathedral and they were blessed with four children: Carol, Nancy, Jim and Don. Bob and Darlene have raised their family in Omaha. Bob worked at a grocery store prior to becoming a mechanic. In 1968, Bob and his brother Ed purchased a local service station near 48th and Hamilton, where he worked for 45 years. He enjoyed air shows, travelling, especially to “ghost towns” and special Saturday daytime trips with the family .Bob had an artistic side and enjoyed drawing and creating unique pieces of art. He was hardworking, dedicated, faithful and could fix anything. Bob enjoyed Burger King and a coke. If you found Bob “relaxing”, it would be in his shop, working on a project. Bob passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at his home in Omaha with his family at his side at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 10 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Cyril and Mary and brothers Joseph, Ed and John. Bob is survived by his wife Darlene; daughters and sons-in-law Carol and Randy Eager of Murdock, NE and Nancy and Bernard Huser of Pinetop, AZ; sons and daughters-in-law Jim and Michele of Topeka, KS and Don and Heidi of Gaston, SC; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; Leaden, Robert “Bob” age 74 years of Omaha, NE Survived by wife Darlene; daughters and sons-in-law Carol and Randy Eager of Murdoch, NE and Nancy and Bernard Huser of Pinetop, AZ; sons and daughters-in-law Jim and Michele of Topeka, KS and Don and Heidi of Gaston, SC; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; visitation Friday noon to 7 PM with a wake service at 7 PM at the funeral home; Funeral Mass Saturday 10:30 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church (6905 Blondo St.); Interment Prospect Hill Cemetery; Memorials to the Humane Society of the United States.
