Steven Kent Larsen

“Pop Pop ran out batteries”, as Tillie (Age 2) said, after a very brief battle with cancer. Steve (often referred to as Casey) grew up outside of Blair and attended the Orum rural school where he was an original member the “Orum Raiders”. He went to high school in Blair where he played football and was involved in FFA. Steve graduated in 1968. Shortly after graduation, Steve joined the US Army and was deployed to Vietnam with the 25th Infantry Division, the Electric Strawberry. It was in the Army that Steve developed a love of music and particularly Rock and Roll; it was his connection to home. His memory was like a jukebox. He could remember every song, the band, and year it came out. After returning home from the war, Steve met the love of his life and wife of 52 years, Claudia, at the Corner Retreat Bar in Blair. 46 days later they were engaged, and on September 4th, 1971, one day after his 21st birthday, they were married. He and Claudia spent almost a decade enjoying life as a twosome before they welcomed a baby girl, Jessica, into the family in 1980. Three years later they had a son, Casey. Throughout his life Steve enjoyed collecting Classic cars, and racing of any kind: snowmobiles, go-karts, Nascar and Indy. If it had a motor then Steve loved it. He attended the Indy 500 several times and was always in front of the TV on Sundays during race season. (Claudia has successfully pretended to be interested for over 50 years). Steve took his final lap on September 8th with his family by his side. Steve is proceeded in death by his parents, Ivan and Georgia Larsen; in-laws, Ray and Tillie Alesch; brother-in-laws, Denny Moser, Paul Pick, Ken Alesch, Jim O’Connor; a sister-in-law, Betty Moser, and loyal family dog, Butch. He is survived by wife Claudia; daughter, Jessica (Bryan); son, Casey (Ali), four grandchildren: Calvin, Gus, Quinn and Tillie; sister, Linda (Bob) Olson; brother- and sister-in-laws, Marlene Pick, Marietta Alesch, Jacquie O’Connor, Paul (Jane) Alesch, Kay (Bob) Johnson, and dozens of nieces and nephews. Steve will be missed greatly by his family and friends. If love alone could have kept him here, he would have lived forever.
